Vancouver Mom Style with Substance

Earlier this summer some members of the VancouverMom.ca team had the chance to go on a Posh Shopping Tour. One of the stores we stopped in was Twigg & Hottie on Main Street. Over 10 years of business the space has evolved into the fashion-forward store it is today. From the outside the shop seems unassuming enough, but inside you’ll find great pieces from over 50 young Canadian designers. In fact, one of the lines they feature is We3 Designs, from shop owners Glencora Twigg, Christine Hotton and Jessica Vaira. Many of the designers focus on eco-friendly fashion, including We3 itself, which makes Twigg & Hottie a great place to shop for Vancouver mom style you can feel good about wearing.

Vancouver Mom Style from We3 Designs

Twice a year, We3 produces roughly 20 styles of tops, dresses, pants, skirts, jackets and accessories. They use only sustainable fabrics, and manufacture their clothes right here in Vancouver. They have a strong background in fashion – the three designers behind We3 met in design school. They say, “We pay attention to the details that escape many designers. We fit our products rigorously and have a great eye for proportion and minimal design.” The result is versatile pieces that can take your Vancouver mom style from playdate to night on the town.

I recently had the chance to try one of their kimono sleeve essentials tops in bamboo. I wore it everywhere – to my son’s fifth birthday party, to the farmers’ market, on the playground, out for the evening and around the house. I liked the shirt a lot. I found it flattering and forgiving. Wearing it made me feel better-dressed than I do in my standard T-shirt and jeans. In this very warm Vancouver summer it was also nice and cool. If you’re looking for something for cooler fall and winter days, they also produce the design using merino wool.

The care instructions on all the clothes from We3 Designs say to wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. It’s pretty easy – but I’ll admit that I usually opt for pieces that can withstand the dryer. Sometimes I’m doing laundry last-minute, thanks to my children’s adorable but sticky fingers. I was tempted to throw my shirt in the dryer to see what would happen, but I haven’t braved it so far. I really do like it, and I don’t want to risk ruining it. I want to be able to wear it next summer, and the summer after that, and the summer after that.

The kimono sleeve essentials top in bamboo sells for $79. In merino wool it’s $128. In addition to Twigg & Hottie, you can find We3 Designs online at www.we3.ca, if you want your Vancouver mom style delivered to your door.
