Trending: The Chinese Lantern Festival

If you drive by the corner of Renfrew and East Hastings, you can’t miss the bright colourful pagoda-style entrance to the PNE. This marks the entry to the sprawling (and dazzling) Chinese Lantern Festival that snakes around the PNE grounds from December 15th to January 21, 2018

The international touring festival is a visual feast that will wow children and adults alike. With 35 large-scale illuminated silk lantern displays, the fest transforms over 14 acres of Hastings Park into an explosion of light and colour. Plus, there are nightly performances, crafts, stories, food and fun attractions to explore.

A big draw is the nightly performances in the PNE Amphitheatre. Kids will be amazed by the jaw-dropping acrobatics, plate spinning and jar balancing. There will also be cultural music, including the familiar strains of the Erhu, and flamboyant folk dancing. As with most festivals these days, food trucks will be on hand for the hungry and hot drinks with and without a little something ‘extra’ for the thirsty (hot buttered rum anyone?).
