VM Picks: Top Kids Summer Camps 2018, a Q&A with Eaton Arrowsmith
Looking for a creative or active summer camp? One that keeps the kids brains or bodies engaged? Well our VM Picks: Top Vancouver Summer Camps list features some of our favourite camps for kids.
We connected with Sandra Heusel, Admissions and Marketing Director of Eaton Arrowsmith about the Arrowsmith Summer Cognitive Intensive Program at Eaton Arrowsmith that strengthens kids brains to unlock their learning potential.
Give us a brief description of your camp.
The Arrowsmith Summer Cognitive Intensive Program helps students realize their potential. Children strengthen the parts of their brains responsible for logical, cause and effect reasoning and increase their ability to understand information in this six-week program.
Children (over age 10) and adults with learning disabilities can
- understand concepts
- study and do well on tests
- problem-solve
- participate in group conversations
- follow instructions in class and at work
- complete projects faster
- and understand jokes and sarcasm
They just need the keys to unlock their brains
What makes your summer camp unique?
At the Arrowsmith Summer Cognitive Intensive Program at Eaton Arrowsmith students with learning disabilities work to strengthen the weaknesses in their brains that make learning and school challenging. This is not your average summer school. Each student completes a program of cognitive exercises to improve their ability to understand information. This program doesn’t help children work around their learning disabilities. It helps them strengthen their brains so they can reach their potential.

When summer school isn’t a dirty word
What are 2 highlights of your camp, something the kids will talk about after camp is over.
- Children strengthen the weaknesses in their brains that cause them to struggle in school and they do so with help from a supportive community of teachers and peers.
- Students gain confidence that they can return to the mainstream school system in the fall with a better ability to learn. Or they discover that schools like Eaton Arrowsmith can help them continue to strengthen their brains so they can reach their potential.
What will kids learn at your camp?
Students who attend the Arrowsmith Summer Cognitive Intensive Program at Eaton Arrowsmith are tired of coping with learning disabilities. They want to stop struggling in school and take their future into their own hands.
This program allows students to give their brains a boost over the summer holidays. For six weeks, students strengthen the parts of their brains responsible for logical and cause and effect reasoning. They also increase their ability to understand information through a series of cognitive exercises.
Students with learning disabilities can understand concepts, study and do well on tests, solve problems, participate in group conversations, follow instructions in class, complete projects faster and understand jokes and sarcasm. They just need the keys to unlock their brains. Think of Eaton Arrowsmith’s summer program as those keys.

At Eaton Arrowsmith we teach our students a series of exercises to help them strengthen their brains and address the cognitive weaknesses that cause their specific learning difficulties. We operate on the principle of neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to be strengthened over time with targeted training. This sets us apart from other learning intervention programs. www.eatonarrowsmith.com
