Three no-fuss workout options for busy moms (and moms-to-be)
Spring is on its way, really! While warmth and sunshine will be a welcome change, tank tops, shorts, and bikinis are another story. Luckily we’ve rounded up some simple and convenient options for Vancouver moms on the go to squeeze in some fitness before winter comes to a close.
Aaptiv
Wouldn’t we all love the luxury of having an on-demand personal trainer, ready to push us to the limit on the treadmill or in the weight room? Luckily for busy, budget-conscious moms, Aaptiv exists! An app that combines the expert guidance of a trainer with the perfect playlist, Aaptiv runs users less than $15 a month, a fraction of the cost of a personal trainer with the added convenience of being able to do your workout anywhere, anytime. Lace up your sneakers and go for an intermediate run through Stanley Park, or hit your local community centre for an advanced 20 minute elliptical workout over your lunch hour.
Streaming Online Workouts
Sometimes the only mom-friendly exercise during a busy day is a naptime or post-bedtime workout at home. Workout videos are fine, but who wants to do the same exercises, with the same cues and music, over and over again? Enter online workout streaming. Many fitness sites offer you the choice of a subscription to a library of videos or even live streaming classes. One mama favourite is Barre3, which combines pilates, yoga, and barre with a minimal number of props and a huge collection of 10, 30, and 60 minute classes to mix and match based on how motivated you are feeling.
Fit 4 Two
If you are pregnant or a new mom, Fit 4 Two might be just right for you. Offering many prenatal and postnatal classes, including AquaFit, Barre, Yoga, and Spin, Fit 4 Two classes can be found throughout the Lower Mainland, including downtown and East Van, North Van, and Coquitlam. Finding childcare won’t be an issue, because babies are welcome and encouraged at all postnatal Fit 4 Two classes.
Now, there’s no excuse not to get fit!
Kristin McIvor is a new mom to a joyful little boy and seasoned mom to a moody lab mix. Married to a native Vancouverite, she hails originally from North Carolina but has grown to love the west coast and fashionable rain gear. When she isn’t chasing after her son, she enjoys long walks with large coffees, baby picnics in the park, and wine, pizza, and Netflix marathons on her couch.
