Today’s Vancouver Mom: Janet Kimmel of Align Method
Janet Kimmel is the dynamic (and fit) founder of The Align Method. She is a core and pelvic floor fitness coach, and her calling is helping women reclaim their physical freedom to move with confidence. Leaking during any activity, prolapse and mummy tummy can be reduced, often fixed, she says. “Yes it takes work. I am here to support you and help you get your results,” she says. Ignoring these conditions is not an option in her opinion as it will produce reoccurring and permanent health concerns. Education along with Hypopressives make up the foundation of her program as a means to bridge a very critical and often over looked gap between your healthcare team and your regular fitness routine.
She shares some of her favourite places to go around town with her family.
Janet’s Favourite Places to Explore!
East is East
This is one of my favourite picks as a family lunch or dinner spot. I feel I still get my kids to eat real food while sneaking some grown up time. It is cozy and comforting. (On Main or Broadway).

Butter Baked Goods
Butter is a quick walk from my house and the perfect spot for lunch, coffee or tea with a friend. They have sinful treats but also very healthy light meal options on hand.
La Buca
This cute Italian restaurant serves handmade pasta and locally sourced ingredients, with a fantastic wine selection. It is small so be sure to book ahead.
The Jericho Sailing Center
The sailing center and Windsure Adventure Watersports in the summer has amazing summer camps from SUB, skim boarding, sailing, kayaking and windsurfing ( for kids and adults!) and we often end the day playing on the beach, having fish and chips and a cold beer at The Galley Patio and Grill while we watch the sun go down. There are many wild bunnies, a great delight for little kids (don’t touch them though).
Origins Parkour
Origins Parkour on Main St. has a drop in program over the weekends. A lifesaver if you have kids 6 and older who need to run and climb and blow off some steam. Our kids are super active and this is often where we’ll meet up with some friends for serious active time when the weather is too rainy out.
Kids Physio Group
My kids try out many sports and activities and they are super active. It is worth going to see one of the amazing physio’s at Kids Physio Group on Fraser or in North Van if your kid has an injury or imbalance of any sort. They work magic here.
Pacific Spirit Park
We’ve biked, hiked, played our way through this park for many years. I feel I know it so well. It has an off- leash trail which is great for our weimeraner, Lily. There are often community projects on the go – i.e help planting new trees and the kids love to get involved. They even hand out free snacks.
