50 Essential Portrait Photographers: Sarah Funk of Silver Lamb Studios

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Funk of Silver Lamb Studios. A mom of three kids ages six, five and two, Sarah is pretty busy between her business and shuttling her kids between school and other activities. She also regularly take day trips to various places around the Lower Mainland with her dad, her shares her love of photographing birds, flowers and whatever else might capture their interest that day.

1. Why did you get into photography?

I wouldn’t say I got into it. I’d say it got into me. It’s something that’s always been a part of my life. I can remember my first camera I got as a gift at 10, and I can remember always trying to interpret what I saw with my eye into a photograph. But once I had my first child, it definitely kicked into high gear! I had a cute little model 24/7!

2. Tell us a bit about your company.

My company is new – I am in my first year of business. I run the whole show with a little free IT help from my hubby. While I love to photograph everything and haven’t quite landed on a specialty, I have been mainly photographing families, newborns and maternity this year. I also have a few weddings under my belt and look forward to shooting more in 2010!

3. How would you characterize your style of photography?

I feel I have a fairly casual style of photography. I’m not a formal person at all. I put my feet on the coffee table and that’s pretty much the way I like to shoot – casual and natural. Capturing people’s true self in their own comfort zone.

4. Who are your clients?

My clients are people who want to capture their lives as it is – right in this moment. They know how important it is to remember the special times in their lives: pregnancy, a newborn baby, how their family looked when the kids were two and four years old. We forget so fast, and I love that my clients want to me preserve their memories forever.

5. What should your mom clients expect when working with you?

Well they should know that I’m a mom too! I’ve had three of my own pregnancies and newborns, so I come with experience. I know what it’s like to get the family together for a portrait, and the stress that goes along with that. I try to make our sessions easy, comfortable and pressure-free. I like to have fun and I hope my clients have fun during our sessions too!
