50 Essential Portrait Photographers: Kimberly Doering of Bounce Images

Kimberly Doering is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, friend, optimist and last but not least a photographer. She is the bounce in Bounce Images, which specializes in newborn, child and family photography in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

Why did you get into photography?

I’ve always been the one with the camera and obsessed with documenting life’s story. After the birth of my children my love for photography grew and I began taking pictures to capture all the moments of their lives – even the not so good ones (like stitches) 😉 I knew it was part of their life story – good or bad. This passion grew until I was photographing my friends and their families and so on. And I’m still the one with the camera!

Tell us a bit about your company.

My business is just me following my dream. It was this time last year that I decided to turn my passion into a business after talking with a friend who said “you’ll always wonder if you don’t try.” And Bounce Images was born! This first year has exceeded my every expectation. I can’t tell you in words how much I love photography and helping people document their lives with images.

How would you characterize your style of photography?

Unscripted, playful and relaxed! I aim to capture the unique things about each person I photograph. That silly grin or loving look, just people being people. All my shoots happen in my client’s homes or on location, using available (natural) light.

Who are your clients?

My clients are everyone from soon to be parents, babies, children, moms, dads, and grandparents – to the family pet!

What should your mom clients expect when working with you?

To be in the picture! If they are anything like the mom’s I know, they are the one behind the camera and not in front of it. For child and family shoots, I will meet you at your home or a location of your choice. I always allow time for children to get to know me and take breaks as needed. Although I don’t formally pose my clients, I will make suggestions to ensure we get great shots. For newborn shoots, I will meet you at your home and bring a number of props and of course a heating pad to ensure the babe stays nice and warm during the shoot. Again, I allow time for fusing, feeding, cuddling and cleaning!

Anything else to add?

If I could add anything, I would encourage everyone to capture and display all the minutes of their child’s life. Sometimes you forget even the special things you think you’ll remember forever.
