50 Essential Portrait Photographers: Holly Truchan of Union Photographers
Today I’d like you to meet Holly Truchan, who co-owns Union Photographers with husband Roger Maher. I had a chance meeting with Holly at last month’s Grassroots Business Meetup event – and I’m glad I did. Her photos rock.
Why did you get into photography?
I love to travel and have been lucky enough to have seen many breathtaking and challenging places. I fell in love with photography through my travels as I used my camera to capture the precious moments unfolding before me. My husband, Roger, was introduced to photography through a class in highschool. He was instantly hooked and hasn’t put down his camera since then.
Tell us a bit about your company.
We are a husband and wife team who have come together through our passion for photography to create Union Photographers. Roger and I have been working together for 5 years now. Our goal is to become our clients’ photographers for life, capturing all the momentous occasions in their lives from weddings to pregnancy to babies to their 50th wedding anniversary and everything in between. We want to help our clients celebrate their lives with joyful lasting photographs.
How would you characterize your style of photography?
Roger and I have two distinctive styles, which we find work really well together. Roger has a timeless aesthetic and attention to detail that produces timeless and innovative images. While I have a more discreet and documentary approach, trying to capture light hearted and intimate moments.
Who are your clients?
Our clients are people who are looking for something different with their family photos. They want photographs that capture the essence of their family naturally rather than the more formal traditional family photos.
What should your mom clients expect when working with you?
To have fun. We enjoy taking pictures and we make it fun for everyone. We do our best to work fast and to put everyone at ease from the parents to the little ones. Most importantly, we want to hear our clients’ ideas for their family photos. We find that when we work collaboratively with our clients then our clients are sure to get the photos they were looking for.
Anything else to add?
Last month we opened the doors to our new studio space in Vancouver. Our studio is warm and comfy to help our clients feel instantly at ease.
