I just closed off the list of 50 Essential Portrait Photographers, but I couldn’t resist adding one late submission. Alana Couch is a wedding and portrait photographer who specializes in capturing the real personalities of her subjects. You won’t find any fake smiles or bored looks in her photos! Alana is based in Vancouver.
Why did you get into photography?
I love people! Photographing people is so creative and fun: I get to capture all sorts of wonderful moments and share in some of the most emotional and memorable times of people’s lives.
Tell us a bit about your company.
Alana Couch Photography has been in business for 5 years and we focus on providing the best in client care. Newborn and baby sessions are photographed in your home to make yourself and your baby more comfortable. Children and family sessions are photographed at a park or playground nearby your home, where your children can genuinely have fun and enjoy themselves while being photographed.
How would you characterize your style of photography?
Fun, spontaneous, unique. I’m all about letting kids have fun and be themselves to capture who they really are. There’s no forcing them to sit and behave!
Who are your clients?
People who value photography and having their memories captured candidly.
What should your mom clients expect when working with you?
A fun, professional, stress-free photo session. Our sessions with children are more like a play-date than a posed photo session.
Anything else to add?
Two to three weeks after the photo session I come to my clients home and project their images on a wall in their home. Viewing sessions are great! It’s fun to see the images enormous on your wall and it also makes it much easier to see expressions and decide favourites.
