8 family friendly events this weekend in Vancouver January 25 & 26 2020

Vancouver is buzzing with two major foodie fests: The Hot Chocolate Fest and Dine Out Vancouver plus a ton of Lunar New Year festivities. There’s also science jamboree in East Van, free art-making at the CAG. And that’s not all. It’s also the annual Vive les Voyageurs weekend featuring all things Métis at the Fort Langley National Historic Site, and boat-obsessed kids will love Super Saturday at Fraser River Discovery Centre.

Lunar New Year Events

January 24 – February 8 2020 Various Locations

Celebrate the Chinese Year of the Rat at any number of locations. Check out the festivities at Metropolis at Metrotown, Chinatown in Vancouver, Aberdeen Mall in Richmond and many more locations! Watch performances, take part in crafts for all ages, and check out the Lion Dance.

Super Saturdays at the Fraser River Discovery Centre

Saturday January 25 2020 New Westminister

Ever wanted to be the captain of your very own boat? Well here’s your chance! Learn all about the plucky tugboats that carry huge quantities of goods and materials up and down the Fraser, and make your very own origami boat to take home with you after your visit!

Vive les Voyageurs

January 25 & 26 2020 Fort Langley

Tap your feet to the beat of French-Canadian music at Fort Langley National Historic Site’s annual Vive les Voyageurs Festival. Participate in traditional foods, music and culture of the 19th century French-Canadian and Métis fur traders. Kids are free with a paying adult.

East Van Science and Maker Jamboree

Saturday January 25, East Vancouver

Enjoy a day of fun science and maker activities including is a repair cafe, so bring out your broken appliances, torn clothing and anything else you would like fixed. Event includes shows by Science World at 11:00 and 2:30.

Family Day At the CAG *FREE*

Saturday January 25 2020 Vancouver

For this very special Family Day, artist duo Leisure leads a public activation of their installation, Conversations with Magic Forms. Artists young and old will play String Game, where they stretch, weave and tie ropes across CAG’s North Gallery in a collective action. All ages and abilities welcome!

Canyon Lights – Final Weekend

until January 26, 2020

Last chance to wander across the suspension bridge all lit up with twinkling lights and explore the tree top bridges on the other side. Be sure to check out the light show on the cliff face. NB: you can’t take strollers on the bridge or the Cliff Walk, so be prepared with a carrier.

Whether you go with the kids or without, Dine Out is a great way to try out restaurants you’ve always wanted to visit at a fraction of the cost and with very little decision making. Set meals at a prix fixe ($15, $25, $35 and $45)  is the name of the game. Be sure to reserve ahead of time.

Hot Chocolate Festival

Hot chocolate festival
The popular vegan HC from @cadeauxbakery. Coconut milk, passionfruit and white hot chocolate. Only available Jan 18 – 31.

The 10th annual Hot Chocolate Fest is in full swing with wild and wacky hot chocolate concoctions. This is one outing the kids will totally get behind!
