Bethany Schiedel loves people, life, and all its moments. She lives life full and in the moment – her passions make her photography come alive. Along with her husband and little girl, her joy of life comes through in everything she does.

Why did you get into photography?

Eighteen and in Tibet I fell in love with my camera and who I saw through it. I was young and deeply moved by the raw emotions and vulnerability that peered back at me. I came home from traveling and decided to go to school to add the skill and technique to my creative eye and passion.

Tell us a bit about your company.

Images by Bethany was birthed out of a desire and passion to capture the essence of people, to capture life as it happens, to capture raw emotions and pure moments. I have an in-home studio where we can enjoy a cup of tea and your children can play with my daughter and all her toys! If you are looking for something other than studio portraits, I can go to your home or we can choose an outdoor location. My favourite sessions are when I get to “follow” families around, photographing life as it happens. I offer professional coffee table style photo albums, many print options and all images edited and on DVD. I am based out of Vancouver but I love to travel. I’ve photographed weddings here at home and in Eastern Canada, Texas, New England, and Australia.

How would you characterize your style of photography?

My style is clean, spontaneous, creative and timeless. Because my passion is portraying genuine moments and natural expressions, I like to keep the sessions very casual, laid back and fun. My goal is to get to a place where you are comfortable in front of the camera.

Who are your clients?

My clients are moms and dads, grandparents and baby-spoiling aunties, brides and grooms, round bellies and rosy cheeks!

What should your mom clients expect when working with you?

As a mother of a 20 month old little girl, I understand that life with a child flies. I understand the importance of capturing life as it happens because its moments are fleeting. Mom clients can expect me to be informal and spontaneous. I love photographing children as they interact, play, and just be who they are. I will add input and direction as needed but my style is personal, warm and not overbearing. My sessions are about capturing who you are – capturing your child.

Anything else to add?

My photography is my art – my creative expression. I love sharing my art with my clients in a way that captures their essence in a moment of time. I actually consider it an honour and delight.
