7 family friendly activities and events this weekend in Vancouver, January 18 & 19, 2020

Things are really ramping up this weekend with two major palate-pleasing fests. Dine Out Vancouver kicks off with over 300 restaurants to choose from while the Hot Chocolate festival boasts sumptuous and unusual hot chocs. Noms! There’s also free art-making for families at the ArtStarts Gallery, a treasure hunt at the Granville Island Kids Market, and Paddington 2 is showing at the Cinematheque Film Club for kids.

Dine Out Vancouver

Whether you go with the kids or without, Dine Out is a great way to try out restaurants you’ve always wanted to visit at a fraction of the cost and with very little decision making. Set meals at a prix fixe ($15, $25, $35 and $45)  is the name of the game. Be sure to reserve ahead of time.

The annual Hot Chocolate Fest celebrates its 10th year with wild and wacky hot chocolate concoctions with 44 chocstars (AKA participating cafes, bakeries and chocolate shops) and 114 unique flavours. With clever names and innovative taste combos like Apple of my Pie, Bohemian Raspberry and Come to the Dark Side, you’ll want to visit more than one chocstar.

Forget the big chains, head to the Cinematheque with the kids this Sunday for Paddington 2. Certified super-duper “fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes (it’s the best-reviewed film in the site’s history), Paddington 2 was exactly the balm everyone needed in a decade marked by perplexing acts of unkindness and intolerance.
