Seven family friendly events this weekend in Vancouver, January 19 & 20, 2019

Things are really ramping up this weekend with two major palate-pleasing fests. Dine Out Vancouver kicks off with over 300 restaurants to choose from all featuring multi-course meals at prix fixes while the Hot Chocolate festival boasts sumptuous and unusual hot chocs. Noms! There’s also a Lunar Eclipse viewing at the Space Centre, a treasure hunt at the Kids Market, the Cinematheque Film Club for kids, and a special event on Friday for moms looking to return to the workforce. Another wonderful family event takes place at Fort Langley: its annual Vive les Voyageurs weekend features Métis demos, traditional food and tons of fascinating activities.

Dine Out Vancouver

January 18 to February 3, 2019, various locations

Whether you go with the kids or without, Dine Out is a great way to try out restaurants you’ve always wanted to visit at a fraction of the cost and with very little decision making. Set meals at a prix fixe ($15, $25, $35 and $45)  is the name of the game. Be sure to reserve ahead of time.

Hot Chocolate Festival

Jan 19 – Feb 14, 2019, Various locations

The annual Hot Chocolate Fest returns to cafes and bakeries around Vancouver with wild and wacky hot chocolate concoctions with clever names like “Smore than meets the eye” and “Crazy Rich Panda.” This is one outing the kids will totally get behind! PS: There are boozy (AKA drunken) hot chocs for those in need of something a bit stronger.

Lunar Eclipse at the H.R. Macmillan Space Centre

Learn more about the Moon and eclipses in a special show in the Planetarium Star Theatre. The observatory will also be open so you can check out the Moon up close through the telescope. If it is a rainy night they’ll have a live feed of the eclipse in the theatre.
