Good grief! We’re pretty excited about A Charlie Brown Christmas at Waterfront Theatre
A lot of us are still like little kids when it comes to A Charlie Brown Christmas TV special. We all love the Vince Gauraldi Trio jazz score, the anti-commercialization messages, the beautifully melancholy plot, and pretty much anything that Snoopy does just because he’s the definition of cool. It’s a good thing my son likes Charlie Brown too, because I’m taking him to see Carousel Theatre’s production of this popular family favourite at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. It’s so popular, in fact, that it’s been held over for a second time and now goes right up until December 31st!
Here’s what to expect from the show
This holiday classic comes to the stage starting this weekend. It’s billed as a fun musical adaption complete with a live jazz trio. I’m looking forward to the wit, warmth and music of this beloved Peanuts special. Your kids will love joining Charlie Brown on his funny little journey as he tries to direct the school Christmas pageant with some help from his friends and a scrawny little tree.
Artistic director Carole Higgins told us a little about the production. “Carousel’s production of A Charlie Brown Christmas will feature a wonderful jazz trio, Snoopy will be brought to life through magical and hilarious puppetry, and a stellar cast led by funnyman Andrew Cownden will sing, dance and capture your hearts.” she said. “The performance will also feature a musical medley of some of the many different traditions around the world that celebrate the month of December.”
