Summer in Vancouver: Suburban Street Food

The food truck craze that has taken over the city is also in evidence across the region. You can find great street food all around Metro Vancouver. If you’re on the hunt for street food in the suburbs, here are some picks and tips.

Coquitlam and Port Moody

The Tri-Cities has its own dedicated food truck now that Wild Roots Juice Bistro is cruising the streets of Port Moody, serving up juice, smoothies, salads, wraps and healthy snacks. Check their social media stream to see where they are every day. Tri-Cities residents who have a hankering for street food should also stop by the Coquitlam Farmers Market outside the Dogwood Pavilion on Sundays, where you’ll always find some great food carts dishing up delicious eats.

North Shore

If you’re on the hunt for street food on the North Shore, check out the the Street Food App listings for North Vancouver and West Vancouver. Or, for a serious gathering of food trucks stop by the Shipyards Night Market running on Friday evenings until September 26, 2014 at The SHIPYARDS in Lower Lonsdale. In addition to music, vendors and local artisans, there are more than 30 food trucks in attendance.

Richmond

JapaDog is immensely popular, and for good reason. In addition to their downtown locations, you can find them in Richmond at 5973 Number 3 Road. The real street food destinations in Richmond are the two night markets, though. The Richmond Night Market at the River Rock Casino and the International Summer Night Market on Vulcan Way are both serving up lots of street food with a distinctly Asian flair all summer long.

Surrey

The City of Surrey just launched its food truck program this spring, with 10 approved vendors. Old Country Pierogi is one of the vendors, serving up Polish food (including gluten-free options) not just in Surrey but across Metro Vancouver. Also, be sure to stop by the Food Cart Fest Surrey running four Saturdays in a row starting August 9, 2014 at Holland Park.
