VM Mom to Follow: Jody Phillips of the Interior Design Show

This month’s Vancouver Mom to Follow is former product designer and longtime art, craft and design devourer, head of the Interior Design Show, and mom of three, Jody Phillips. Creating visual narratives, championing design and connecting international and regional happenings, Phillips is motivated by the business of design and the talent and inspiration flourishing in the Pacific Northwest.

With strong family roots in the region (her parents and grandparents were born in Vancouver), Phillips has been the director of Interior Design Show Vancouver since 2014. When she’s not in the office, visiting local studios or roaming international design fairs, she can be found out on the water, in the mountains or at home in East Vancouver with her husband and three children.

Places Jody loves to go with her family!

Hollyburn Peak Trail

Hollyburn Heritage

Close to our cabin on Hollyburn Mountain and not too far from the city. Part of this ascent is like the Grouse Grind without the steps while other parts are rolling, easy hills. Fun for the whole family. Definitely bring a picnic for the top. You’ll have views of both the Straight and the watershed.

IDS Vancouver – Youth Programing

The weekend at IDS, September 28 and 29. Fun for the whole family. With workshops for kids ages 8-14, a market that sells kits and art supplies and stroller friendly aisles. My own kids come for the half day workshops and then experience the interactive lighting, food and prototype exhibits at the fair.

CHAU Veggie Express – Victoria Dr.

Communal tables, craft beer, noodles, and vegan, it checks boxes for all members of my family and the soups are particularly great after cold, wet Fall and winter weekend soccer games. Order an order of taro chips with paprika tofu dip for the table.

Trout Lake Market

We ride our bikes there and fill up our paniers with apples and root veg in the fall. The agreement is that we get our fruit and vegetable shop done, then we can treat ourselves to lunch from one of the food trucks.
