Spring Break Events in Metro Vancouver for Families
Science World
Science World is packed this spring break, starting with the re-opening of Ken Spencer Science Park on March 14th — the 35,000-square-foot outdoor space is back and perfect for some fresh air and exploring. Inside, the Astronaut Gardening workshop (March 14 & 21, 11am & 2pm) is a must-do: kids build their own hydroponic seed system and take home a real space tomato experiment. Ages 5+, Members $8.45 / Public $9.95 plus admission — book ahead as space is limited. Artemis Space Adventure with LEGO Bricks runs until April 6th, and there are fun Centre Stage shows all week long including magic, shadow puppets, and juggling. Grown-ups, mark March 26th for After Dark: LEGO Edition (19+). And before you leave, walk through the Native Art Renaissance exhibition in the Lower Atrium — a beautiful collection of Indigenous art from across Turtle Island, on display through 2027.

Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Aquarium is a great spring break day out right now. The two newest exhibits are worth the trip alone — The Curious World of Amazing Axolotls is as cute as it sounds, and Enter the Epic Realm of Dragons lets kids get up close with the real animals behind dragon legends, with daily live presentations. Catch the BBC Earth: North America 4D Experience for some seriously stunning cinematography, and don’t miss Holly and Maui, two California sea lions who just moved in from Ontario and are still getting comfortable in their new BC home. With over 65,000 animals, a hands-on Wet Lab, and world-class indoor and outdoor exhibits, you could easily spend a full day here.

CelticFest Vancouver Family Day

CelticFest Vancouver is back, bringing a lively St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Art Gallery! This free, family-friendly festival is packed with Irish culture, featuring live music, dance, art, and interactive activities for all ages. Kids will love storytelling sessions, face painting, games, and a bouncy castle. Don’t miss the Secret Society of Books Truck, young performers from the O’Brien School of Irish Dance, and lively sets from award-winning Jocelyn Pettit, Bob Collins and Éamonn Mac Hale.

Museum of Surrey
This free drop-in event at the Museum of Surrey is such a good one for kids who are curious about first responders. Throughout the week, families can meet Surrey Fire Service, Surrey Police, Paramedics, BC Emergency Health Services, and more. Kids can try on firefighter gear, practice CPR on mannequins, tackle an obstacle course, go on a scavenger hunt, and make a themed craft. No registration needed.

Carousel Theatre for Young People
If your little ones haven’t seen this one yet, now’s the time. This beloved, highly interactive production of Where the Wild Things Are has been delighting kids across North America for over 20 years and more than 1,000 performances — and it’s just as magical as ever. Kids jump in alongside Max, help transform his bedroom, and sail off to the land of the Wild Things together. It’s less of a sit-and-watch show and more of a guided play experience, which honestly makes it even better for the little ones. Recommended for ages 3–7 and their favourite grown-ups.

Fort Langley National Historic Site
Fort Langley is one of those places that never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve been. This spring break, you can connect with local nature and conservation groups, learn how to care for the land and wildlife, and watch costumed interpreters bring BC’s history to life with traditional heritage skill demonstrations. It’s the kind of outing where the kids are genuinely engaged and you’re learning something too. Cap it off with a stroll through the charming village and grab an ice cream on the way out.

Gulf of Georgia Cannery
Spring is here and the salmon are back and so is the Cannery’s annual Spring Break Salmon Run challenge! From March 14–29, kids grab a self-guided activity booklet at the front desk and work their way through salmon-themed challenges and activities throughout the Cannery. Complete them all and earn an exclusive prize. It’s genuinely one of those activities where the kids don’t even realize they’re learning. Round it out with daily screenings of “Pacific Salmon and their Circle of Life” in the Boiler House Theatre, plus the Cannery Kids’ Corner stocked with I-Spy, memory games, colouring sheets, and more.

Hands-On Learning at Britannia Mine Museum
If you haven’t taken the kids to Britannia Mine Museum yet, add it to the list. About an hour outside Vancouver, this National Historic Site is a full day out. Admission includes a 75-minute guided tour that takes you underground by historic train, into the iconic Mill No. 3 building for BOOM! — a multi-sensory show that genuinely wows kids and adults alike — and over to the gold panning pavilion where whatever you find, you keep. It’s one of those rare outings where everyone comes home talking about it.

Britannia Shipyards
If you’re looking for something a little different that gets the kids away from screens, the Britannia Shipyards in Steveston is a gem. There’s plenty to explore both indoors and out, and the best part? It’s completely free. Pair it with lunch at Pajo’s and a walk along the waterfront and you’ve got yourself a pretty solid afternoon.

Check out the birdies at Reifel Bird Sanctuary

Get up close and personal with waddling and flying fowl at this jewel of a bird sanctuary on Westham Island. Pick up some seeds on-site and feed the birdies, just beware of the overly friendly sandhill cranes. A steal at $3 for kids and $5 for adults. Pro tip: Bring binoculars and a thermos of hot chocolate for the warming hut.
VanDusen Gardens & Bloedel Conservatory

Check out the sprawling gardens at VanDusen where the kids can really roam around. You can always head up to Queen Elizabeth Park and take in the view. Warm up inside the tropical clime of the Bloedel Conservatory, home to colourful exotic birds and tropical plants.
Fort Langley National Historic Site

Explore the fort, check out a blacksmithing demo, pan for gold and be sure to check out the children’s Play Area. Cap it off with a visit to the charming town of Fort Langley to visit the train stroll by the water or pick up a fancy ice cream.

Nothing says Spring quite like getting up close and personal with baby chicks, goats and ducklings. MapleWood Farm in North Van makes for a charming outing as does Aldor Acres in Fort Langley.
