What to do in Vancouver: Run in Support of Easter Seals

24 hours sounds like a long time to run around in circles. It’s a walk in the park compared to the challenges some kids deal with their entire lives, however. You can make a difference in the lives of those children by walking, jogging or sprinting around Swangard Stadium and Burnaby Central Park on June 14 to 15, 2014. The annual Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay will help give disabilities a run for their money.

Easter Seals Makes a Difference

Easter Seals camp 24 hour relay what to do in vancouverThis event has been running for 35 years now, and over those years the funds raised have sent thousands of kids to Easter Seals camps. Rising camp costs and increased competition for donor dollars mean that campers’ families now pay a small portion of the costs to send their child to camp. As a result, this year the kids need your help even more. Their parents already faced increased costs, so it’s important that their camp expenses be kept to a minimum. The Relay needs your help. There’s still time to round up a team to register and participate in this year’s Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay event.

The Easter Seals Camping Program makes an enormous difference to kids with physical and cognitive disabilities. At camp these kids have the opportunity to discover their abilities, build their confidence and, most importantly, have fun in a safe and caring environment. “Camp really helped me accept my disability and not let it limit my dreams and aspirations,” says Johnny, who attended Easter Seals camp last year. “In just one week, I gained more knowledge and perspective than I would in a year anywhere else.”

Acceptance, Independence and Self-Confidence

Not only did she have fun, fun and more fun, she experienced acceptance, independence and loads of self-confidence. She was able to fully participate in camp life because of the amazingly supportive, aware and kind staff who interacted with her.”

It’s not just the campers who benefit, either. Every participant in the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay knows it’s much more than a run. It’s a weekend of hanging out with friends, family and coworkers, playing volleyball and bocce, listening to live music, and participating in onsite games and activities. You’ll also enjoy the beer garden, great food and the joy of camping overnight in Burnaby Central Park. Plus, once you’ve registered a team you’ll be supported every step of the way.
