Where to Eat in Vancouver: In Search of Raw Food

Are you a Vancouver mom who made a New Year’s resolution to put your own wellness first in 2013? One of the best ways to get a jump start is by healthy eating. Dun, dun, dun! Last year my gall bladder kicked the bucket, marking the beginning of my quest to find the healthiest food options possible. In my research the phrase that kept popping up was raw food. Through trial and error I have become a raw food convert. When I follow a raw food diet I feel healthy, energized and, well … well.

So What is Raw Food?

A raw food diet consists of whole, unprocessed fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and select legumes and grains that have not been heated past 48 degrees Celcius. The underlying idea is that when food is cooked past a certain temperature, the natural enzymes break down and the food loses much of its nutritional value.

Raw food restaurants have been sprouting up all over Vancouver offering their health-concious patrons a mouth watering selection of raw meals. If you want to dine out, without breaking your New Year’s resolution to make wellness a priority, why not check out the raw food options at these restaurants? It’s our guide for where to eat in Vancouver when you’re on the hunt for whole, raw foods.

The Acorn

The Goji

The Acorn’s menu offers main courses with names such as Zucchini. While the titles sound simple, the dishes are a rainbow of colours reflecting a mix of raw vegetables in the form of lasagne, pancakes and sauces. Make sure to leave room for The Acorn’s guilt-free desert, the Goji. The Goji is a raw chocolate ganache tart with a walnut crust, garnished with lemon goji berry preserve, elephant heart plum coulis and frozen grapes. Is your mouth watering yet?
