When it comes to kids’ activities, the options can be overwhelming and landing a spot in a coveted program can be a challenge. As a parent, you want to expose your kids to new experiences to help them grow. You also have to factor in costs and how each activity fits within the family schedule. Scoring a spot in a program that will satisfy both parent and kids needs is the ultimate goal, which is why we want to introduce you to Elevate Ultimate and their winter programs!

Elevate Ultimate’s winter program scores points with both kids and parents!

Ultimate is a fast-paced team sport played with a flying disc frisbee. It is gaining traction as a popular sport for kids and young adults. Burnaby’s own Elevate Ultimate is the leader in disc sports for kids aged 4 to 19. With registration for their winter program now open, it’s the perfect time to get up-to-speed on the many benefits (and life lessons) of ultimate!

The Rundown

Ultimate is a non-contact sport played by two seven-player teams. Players throw the frisbee to one another. The goal is to score the most points by catching the frisbee in the other team’s end zone. It’s a mix of football, basketball and soccer and involves a ton of running – an excellent outlet for high energy kids!

The Points (for both Kids and Parents)

Founded by former Team Canada representatives Ari Nitikman and Danie Proby. Elevate Ultimate’s mission is to pass on skills and values that will transcend the field. So, in addition to the physical benefits of a sport that requires agility and strength, kids also learn about sportspersonship, personal accountability and open-mindedness.

Did you know that ultimate is a self-refereed sport? If you’re wondering how well that works for kids, it provides a great learning opportunity as they get to advocate for themselves. It also helps them to learn how to resolve conflicts on their own. The sport also promotes trust and togetherness as players learn how to win and lose as a team. Importantly, ultimate strives to create an intersectional, inclusive and safe space for athletes. The coaches at Elevate Ultimate use their positivity to foster a supportive environment and proudly note that all elementary teams in Canada are mixed-gender.

The Game Plan

Looking to prevent post-holiday boredom? Elevate Ultimate’s winter program runs from January until mid-March 2022. Programs are offered at locations across Metro Vancouver at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and at various age groups with the youngest being 4 to 6 years old (programs for these littles are indoor only). Fees for the winter program start at $160, and keep in mind that overall costs are minimal as ultimate requires almost no equipment.
