Lunar New Year at Metropolis at Metrotown
This Lunar New Year, Metropolis at Metrotown is going all out for the Year of the Horse with a month of celebrations that honestly sound pretty amazing. Starting February 2, they’re hosting everything from a beautiful exhibition by the Chinatown Storytelling Centre to hands-on LEGO building, live lion dances, and even a dumpling eating contest (yes, please!). Kids can make their own crafts, learn traditional lion dancing, and maybe even spot the God of Fortune handing out red pockets. The whole thing wraps up February 22 with martial arts performances and cultural dance showcases. Plus, if you’re doing some shopping anyway, spend $200 and you’ll get a gift card and an adorable horse plush while supporting the Chinatown Storytelling Centre. It’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house with the kids, learn something new, and soak up some good luck for the year ahead.

Stop by their kitchen during select times to chat with community member Jessica Yue and learn how you can make traditional New Year snacks at home. All ages and languages are welcome

Lunar Near Year at The Gulf Of Georgia Cannery
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery is celebrating the Year of the Horse with an afternoon of hands-on crafts and live performance. Families can drop into the Chinese Lucky Knot Workshop to learn the traditional folk art of knotting and create their own good luck keychain to take home. Then head to the main entrance for a high-energy lion dance performance by the Vancouver Chinese Lion Dance Association—watch out for flying lettuce, it’s all part of the good luck!
