Still Searching for Summer Camp? Check out Dunbar

When it comes to summer camp, some Vancouver moms are way ahead of the game, signing their kids up the minute registration opens. For some high-demand camps, this is almost a requirement if you want a space. Other Vancouver moms take a more haphazard approach. If you’ve been meaning to sign your kids up for a summer camp this summer but haven’t quite gotten around to it yet, we have good news for you. We have the scoop on some open spaces at the Dunbar Community Centre. If you’re on the hunt for kid-friendly Vancouver summer fun, we’ve got it!

Summer Camp at Dunbar

Summer Adventures Day Camp runs weekly at Dunbar Community Centre. There are two age groupings: Juniors are five to eight years old, and Seniors are nine to twelve. Camp sessions run Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm (except for the week of BC Day, when the summer camp runs Tuesday to Friday). If your work day is longer than that, never fear – before and after care is available for an extra fee. Each week has a different theme – upcoming sessions include Underwater Thrills, Mad Scientists and Arts and Stars, among others.

Summer Adventures Day Camp boasts highly-trained and qualified staff. Campers will enjoy excursions around the Dunbar neighbourhood, as well as all the classic out-trips. Kids will participate in a mix of physical, social, and artistic recreational activities to keep them active and engaged. The camp also focuses on integration with support for children with additional needs (upon an assessment interview). The result is a highly-inclusive summer camp, where campers learn new and adaptive games and learn about children’s rights using Equitas’ “Play it Fair!” model.

Yes, There’s Still Space!

Summer camp at Dunbar is $150 per week, and we can confirm that there’s still space for 2013. Dunbar’s Daycamp Program Manger is Alyson Tan, and she told us, “We are on a week-to-week basis so for example, we are pretty full next week but have plenty of room for the next five weeks after that.” If you’re still wondering what to do in Vancouver this summer to catch a break, this summer camp may be the answer. To register drop by Dunbar Community Centre at 4747 Dunbar Street, call 604-222-6060, or visit www.dunbarcentre.ca.
