Mom’s Night Out at Taves Farms Sunflower Sip ‘n Stroll

Sometimes this mama needs a break and some fresh farm air so when I saw Taves Farms had an adults only Sip ‘n Stroll event, I called a friend and booked in a Mom’s Night Out!

Taves Family Farms in Abbotsford is over 60 acres and home to a sunflower patch, U-Pick berries and apples, corn mazes, a pumpkin patch, pedal karts, pony rides, hay rides, a petting barn, jumping pillows and a cidery – lots to do for all family members, but this time, it was just the grown-ups!

We started our visit on a hayride with Farmer Loren who has been on the farm since 1969 when he was just a kid himself. He now runs the farm with his wife Corinne and had lots of stories about the growth of the farm, some harvest secrets and the various crops including goji berries and heirloom pumpkins that grow blue and pink!

After our ride we were set loose in the sunflower patch which was an Instagrammer’s dream. With the sun setting and the sunflowers standing tall it was like frolicking in a floral wonderland. We kept an eye out for sneaky gnomes and some hungry bees as we enjoyed the incredible scenery. We were even able to cut a few to take home!

Our next stop was the cidery where we got to taste a selection of Barnyard Billy and his “gang of troublemaker’s” fresh orchard-to-bottle ciders. My favourites were the Ram’s Blackcurrent Cider and Genj’s Goji Berry Cider. I also enjoyed the Vintage Barrel-Aged 30 Year Anniversary Cider, I could definitely taste the bourbon barrel flavours, yum!

We finished our visit cuddling the baby goats. Those little cuties made me think that farm life might be for me! But then I recalled Farmer Loren’s story about being knocked over by a ram so back to East Van we went.

I had a fantastic Mom’s Night Out. It was really nice to get time to catch up with a girlfriend, explore some gorgeous farmland and taste (and buy to bring home) some really delicious ciders. I may have missed my kiddos a tiny bit when I saw the slide and jumping pillow as I know they would love playing on those. They also would have gone wild for the goats and found the geese hilarious, but that’s just a good excuse to go back for another visit and bring the family with me!
