Although summer is slowly winding down, Vancouver’s cultural calendar is in full swing. Grab a pumpkin spice latte and head out to these family-friendly festivals and events in and around the city this month.

Vancouver Fringe Festival
Calling all thespians, artisans, music-loves and well, anyone really. The Fringe is back on Granville Island (as well as other satellite locations) is packed with more than 700 performances. Take in a theatrical show, drop-in on a workshop, or dance the night away. There is plenty of affordable family-friendly entertainment to take in.

Wesbrook Village Festival
Meet local artisans, rock climb and enjoy some delicious barbecue. Oh, and leave the wallet at home, this festival for youngsters and the young at heart is absolutely free! A Kid’s Zone, beer garden and live music – what better way to spend a day?

The Coho Festival
Come for the famous Coho salmon barbecue on the waterfront, and stay for the Coho garden (where they serve wine and craft beer), the Kids Park, music from none other than Chilliwack and be sure to visit the Squamish Nation Village. If you’re feeling energetic, sign up for the 14 km run, which starts at Kits Beach or the ocean swim and follow it up with a pancake breakfast before you tuck into the salmon!

Riverfest in New West
This free event hosted by the Fraser River Discovery Centre brings plenty of hands-on opportunities for children. There’s also aerial acrobats, live music and educational exhibits. Get a good night’s sleep, because there’s a ton to pack in between 11 am and 4 pm.
