2011 Search for 30 Fabulous Vancouver Mom Bloggers – Nominate Now!

Not satisfied with the success of last year’s Ultimate Mom Blogger contest, we’re looking for even more fabulous mom bloggers in Vancouver!

Nominate your favourites who didn’t make the list last year – we’re putting together an all-new list of the Fabulous 30 Blogs by Vancouver Moms. We’ll then leave it to you, our valued readers, to choose the mother of all mom blogs by voting on our top 30 list.

How to Qualify:

  1. The site needs to be a blog based on the Wikipedia definition: “a type of web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.”
  2. The blog needs to be primarily written by a mom. It can have several guest or regular contributors, but the main owner of the blog must be a mom.
  3. The mom must live in Metro Vancouver. Check out the right sidebar on this page to find out what cities and municipalities qualify.
  4. Topics can vary. You just need to be a mom who blogs. Blogs with classic “mommy blog” material can be submitted, along with almost anything else (as long as it’s not illegal, pornographic or about gambling or anything).
  5. The blog can be corporate. If you know of a witty mom entrepreneur blog that’s part of a larger company, feel free to submit them.
  6. The blog has to be well-established (a few months old), well written and designed, as well as updated on a semi-regular basis (at least a couple times a week).
  7. Both blogs with their own domain name or one hosted with WordPress, Blogger or another service (e.g. fabulousblogname.wordpress.com) are acceptable.
  8. VancouverMom.ca reserves the right to decide who will and won’t be on the Fabulous 30 list. Along with some of the ones you nominate, we’ll also be adding ones that we feel should be added to the list.
  9. Blogs that made last year’s Top 30 list remain in our hall of fame forever, and are not eligible for nomination this year. Visit last year’s post to find out was on the 2010 list.

How to Nominate:

  1. Submit your favourite blogs by commenting below. Don’t forget the URL!
  2. Be sure to say why you think the blog should be included.
  3. Nominate as many blogs as you want.
  4. Self nomination and shameless promotion are not just allowed, they are invited and encouraged!

Timing:

  1. Nomination period: April 1 to 15
  2. Editorial period. We’ll be publishing profiles on VancouverMom.ca: April 18 to April 29
  3. Voting period. You get to vote on your favourite of the Fabulous 30: May 2 to May 6
  4. Winner Announced: Mother’s Day, May 8

What the Winner Gets:

A prize package to be announced, featuring products and/or services from some amazing local businesses. Plus, the ultimate prize of all: bragging rights!

  • I’d like to nominate my best friend Bruna. A mom, wife, daughter, friend and teacher. She is dedicated to all, is always ready to discuss motherhood and teaching. She loves to write in her blog! Check it out.

    Rosa Chirico.

  • I’d like to nominate Rachel Jonat of http://theminimalistmom.com

Excellent blog on living a rich life with less stuff while raising a son. She’s a mom (and my twin sister!) and living in Vancouver. I’m not a mom but love reading her blog for the insightful posts on a life focused on experiences over stuff. Rachel’s even been featured in the Globe & Mail.

  • I’m shamefully plugging myself (Jodi Shaw for rantsnrascals.com because I love what I do, the group of women whom are top Vancouver mom bloggers I’m proud to be a part of and I love my community of Abbotsford, sharing parenting tips, product reviews and surviving with disabilities and raising a special needs child.

Plus Mother’s Day is the day my oldest son was born so winning would be totally cool!

  • I see Rants N Rascals has been nominated and I want to Second that motion!!! great Blog for moms of all ages!! even us Grammoms!!www.picturetrail.com/ddartmission

  • I have been blogging at mon petit shoo for almost one year.

    http://monpetitshoo.blogspot.com/

I am a 27 year old mom of 3 living with a mental illness. I Blog about DIY, crafts, life as a mom, life with Bi polar. I hope that in sharing my experience with Post Partum Depression and Bi polar disorder, I might help another mom out there. I also crochet handmade items in my north vancouver home. Currently I am crocheting hats to benefit the red cross to help those effected by the earthquake in japan.

Hope you will check me out.

  • Deep breath…

    Okay…

    Go…

I’m just going to put it out there and nominate myself: http://www.audreybrashich.com.

I blog primarily about three things: Motherhood, Body Image and Yoga–and how these perhaps seemingly disparate entities intersect. Because they do! I mean, what crazy busy mom doesn’t need some more OM in her life…in addition to a better body image?

My blog picks apart pop culture trends that make it harder for moms (women, girls etc) to feel good about themselves…and chronicles random, important mothering/parenting phenomena. And the yoga…. well, that’s because the mat is where I go to make sense of all the other stuff in life.

Hope some new readers will check the blog out and join the comment party over on my site.

    Many thanks!

    Audrey

    • Oops morgan! Well still like yoyr blog and i did notice my mistake after seeing u were visiting vancouver last time. Let me know if u ended up finding some nice baby friendly places.

  • I would like to nominate http://www.onesmileymonkey.com

She is a new mom from Vancouver who finds and reviews natural baby/family products and parenting tools. Plus she is going to start her own Free Cloth Diaper 101 Classes in Vancouver/Burnaby to teach families how they can save the landfills and money while cloth diapering!

Worth Checking if you are a parent 😉

  • Ok. So it was suggested that I nominate myself. I feel all funny about it but I am going to do it anyway. As I would be flattered to be among these great mom bloggers. Why not! I love to write about family & play and how important it is to enjoy doing activities & playing together. That is how we create those great memories with our children. I have also just started to add events from a Facebook group I started, to help families venture out into their community.

  • Green Bean & Eco-Mo
    http://ecogreenbean.wordpress.com/

This is a blog that I write about raising my little green bean (who’s turning 1 soon). For the month of March and early April, it will primarily focus on our eating out experience in hawaii (whether a restaurant is kid friendly etc) as our little one’s first family vacation. Other than that, it’s random experiences as a mom, tips on being economical and product reviews. Hope you will enjoy it. 🙂

  • I’d like to nominate the local blog:

    http://sweetcharlieanneomine.blogspot.com/

I came across this blog a few months back and have enjoyed all of her heart felt posts about her daughter, Charlie Ann, who was diagnosed with a terminal illness as a baby.

Recently she blogged about taking her little girl to Science World and all the challenges that she encountered on this very local Vancouver activity.

This is a Vancouver Mom blog to check out.

  • As a mother, I will never give up on my child. As a mother of a child who has autism, I will never give up hope. I look into his eyes and I see all the potential that he has to offer to this beautiful world and I just know that one day the world can see what I see.

Follow our blogs as we share our lives with you and our experiences as people who love someone with autism.

    http://www.BubblesMakeHimSmile.com

On March 16th, 2010 we created our blog in hopes of raising autism awareness, acceptance, and to raise funds for our sons autism treatment.

Even though the idea behind our blog originally started out of a need to raise funds for costly therapy, our website has since turned into an online tool for anyone interested in learning about autism, treatments, programs and training, as well as providing an insight into the lives and experiences as people who love someone with autism.

“I thought I would have to teach my child about the world, but instead I have to teach the world about my child.” – Author unknown

I am the primary writer of our blogs and I’d like to nominate myself for the 2011’s Fabulous Vancouver Mom blogger title and bragging rights. 😉 I think our blog should be included in your search because it is a place that answers a lot of the questions parents with a child on the autism spectrum are continously asking: “Am I alone?” While each child is unique and different in their own individual way, their are so many things families struggle with, or accomlish that are the same and it’s always reasruring to know you are not the only one.

Our blogs tell our story, good or bad, in hopes that people can get a better understanding of what autism is, and become more accepting because of that knowledge. That’s all anyone wants, to be accepted.

    Thank you.

  • I am nominating my blog page wwwhitbytnt.com.
I am a mother and the owner of 30 Minute Hit in Burnaby. The blog page is written by myself and the owner of the Edmonton Hit. Together we write about our lives as owners of a women’s only gym as well as inspiring stories of our members.

Check out our blog and see what results other mom’s are getting!

  • My blog is for Vancouver Moms who are interested in style, secrets and deals. There’s lots of articles about great places in Vancouver, events happening as well as how to remain stylish and sexy – after having kids!

  • I am nominating Tara Cronica which was created by three girlfriends, Bonnie, Jacquie and Tracy to inspire women to live their most authentic lives.

Our goal each day… “Finding lyrical Beauty in Everyday Happenings”

We chose the Goddess Arya Tara to represent our concept as she is the Protectress of Earthly and Spiritual Travel along the road to Enlightenment! We know the source of power in women can be awakened simply by connecting to other women traveling along a similar path.

Our hopes, to create positive change with our authentic voice, sharing our experiences as women in a world that is evolving and unfolding at our finger tips!
I hope you enjoy visiting our site and find inspiration you can share with others.

Svaha…May a blessing rest on you!

Her journey is infectious and has others now doing the same.

  • I would like to nominate Karen Brackett. Her blog (http://www.nyanarose.com) documents the life of a preemie in the NICU. Nyana was born at just 2lbs 6oz at just over 26w gestation. She is a fighter and will hopefully be coming home soon.

Karen is a strong and beautiful woman that just about anyone can look up to.

  • I want to Nominate Karen Bracket. Her and Her husband have documented an amazing journey with a micro premie, starting before the birth. I can’t help but laugh and cry while reading her posts. As a mom myself, I can’t even imagine the strength she has needed to get through the last 7 months, while her baby is in NICU battling lung disease.

    http://www.nyanarose.com/

  • I also would like to nominate Karen Brackett (http://www.nyanarose.wordpress.com). The above posters have described it well. It is a blog I check everyday and look forward to reading the journey they are on that day. They are amazing writters that share with us all the emotions that are part of their family. I have shed many tears of happiness and sadness. I can’t even begin to explain how anxious I am to read about the day they get to bring that little girl home. The best part is I have never actually met this mom and I have my whole family and friends reading it all over Canada! Just read it you will see what I mean!

  • I would like to nominate my freind Karen’s Blog. It is about an amazing little girl and her amazing parents, documenting thier sturggles and trimuphs with the NICU and getting thier baby girl home. Karen and her husband are amazing people and writers with a very special little girl on their hands.
    http://www.nyanarose.com

  • I would also like to nominate Karen Brackett. Her blog (http://www.nyanarose.com) documents the life of a preemie in the NICU. Nyana was born at just 2lbs 6oz at just over 26w gestation. She is a fighter and will hopefully be coming home soon.

  • Okay, I’ll nominate myself. I blog at Resolving Timeline Issues. I am a public servant or public insurgent, depending on how you look at it. I have an almost 2-year old who is my life (and is rapidly turning into a Blackhawks fan because of her dad – pooh, but everyone has their faults :)).

Anyways, I’d like to be considered. 🙂

  • I would like to nominate Karen Brackett (and Don & Nyana – also contributors to the blog) to win the best mommy blogger award. Her blog http://nyanarose.com speaks for itself. Not only is it amazingly dynamic, emotional, insightful, and moving, but it is also incredibly well written. When you think of all this family has to do on a daily basis just to be a family – it is amazing that they can share that with the world.

  • I nominate Arieanna Schweber for her very cool blog “Active Mama” (http://www.activemama.com)

Arieanna writes about being an active mama to her very outgoing and also active young son Aiden. She offers practical advice to moms as she blogs about her own experience during her pregnancy and since giving birth – including sleep training, breastfeeding and general parenting issues as well as offering interesting reviews of baby products. Besides that, Arieanna is an awesome blogger.

  • I would like to nominate Lindsay Dianne over at the Urban Momtographer to win best mommy blogger.

    http://runningscared.ca/UrbanMomtographer/

Lindsay’s blog is not only informative but it is also very inspirational. Her all around life blog touches on topics such as parenting, the environment and of course photography. Another amazing and in my opinion, the most important aspect of her blog, for me at least is her weekly feature of “Food Is Fuel: Fridays” in this weekly feature she looks at nutrition and feeding your family and your body healthy home-cooked meals. The focus is fueling your body with the good stuff. It has changed my life and I’m sure the lives of others as her steadily increasing traffic might also attest to.

Simply put this is one of the best blogs around and if anyone that I know deserves such an honor it would be her. Not only is she a top mommy blogger, but she’s also a top mommy.

  • I would like to nominate Karen Brackett. Her little girl was born at 27 weeks at BC Women’s Hospital.

Karen, and sometimes her husband, details little Nyana, her care and their life as a family since day one. A great writer and a Mom from a much different perspective than the rest of us.

Thanks for the E-mail today, Vancouvermom.ca, advising me of this contest. Since you close nominations tomorrow, I’d like to put my site http://www.bcfamily.ca into the mix.

I’m a mother of 20 month old twins who has just finished a year long (!) process moving from downtown to Coquitlam. Living in this vibrant and busy new area is definitely going to inspire me in new directions for my website, which is focussed on BC Families. I keep an active Twitter account (bcfamilyca) & related FB page. Hope to meet up with you online & good luck to all nominees!

  • I would like to nominate Karen Brackett. Her daughter, Nyana Rose, was born at 27 weeks gestation at BC Women’s, and ever since, she has kept a blog about her and her husband’s journey navigating the NICU and all of Nyana’s ups and downs.

She is such an inspiration to me, and I cannot count how many times her blog has made me laugh and cry and everything in between. She deserves it more than anyone.

    http://www.nyanarose.wordpress.com

  • I’d like to nominate lindsay Diane Willet http://www.runningscared.ca/UrbanMomtographer
She`s been a close friend since we were kids in high school. i always new her writing had a special quality as we would pass notes back and forth between classes. Even the most mundane of teenage jargon was interesting and exciting when Lindsay put it on paper. I`m very proud that she has found a niche, a way to use her talents that works in her life as a mother.

  • I’d like to nominate Karen Brackett’s blog….http://nyanarose.com. This blog is so wonderfully written that it draws the follower in and you end up becoming one with the writer. • I nominate Madeleine Shaw and Suzanne Siemens for their blog at LunaPads: Periods, Politics and Personalities.

They blog about feminism, parenting, the environment and what it means to be a socially responsible person and business (among other things).

They definitely deserve a mention on 2011’s list!

    Wendy

  • Hey there,

Not sure if it’s too late, looks like I only have 6 minutes left. I thought I would come on and nominate my family blog, http://www.aias.ca, although after reading some of these other blogs, I feel very humbled!

    Monika
