Vancouver Mom to Follow: Tara Shayegan

If you have ever felt like you were trying to hold it all together while also trying to be present, calm, and maybe even a little zen, you are going to love Tara Shayegan. She is the co-founder of Üphoria Yoga in Vancouver, a lululemon Ambassador, and mom to two busy boys. Alongside her husband Shayan, Tara has built a yoga studio that actually feels like it was made for real families, not just the Instagram version of them.

What makes Tara stand out is not just what she does, it is how she thinks about it. She believes that wellness should fit into your actual life. Not the life you will have someday when things slow down, but the one you are living right now, snacks on the counter, kids arguing in the background and all.

Describe your business or career role.

Tara co-runs Üphoria Yoga, and her role is a little bit of everything. She helps lead the direction of the studio, teaches classes, and stays closely connected to the families who come through the door. But what really sets Üphoria apart is that it was built with your whole family in mind.

They offer classes for kids, teens, parents, and adults. Prenatal and postnatal yoga, after-school programs, seasonal camps. It is the kind of place where your four-year-old and your exhausted postpartum self can both find something that works. Tara mixes movement with creativity and emotional awareness so that kids are not just stretching, they are building confidence and learning how to handle big feelings. As someone who has tried to explain a tough day to a small person who has zero interest in your explanation, I appreciate that approach more than I can say.

What makes you a Vancouver Mom to follow?

Tara gets it. She is not selling you a perfect morning routine or a capsule wardrobe of wellness. She understands the daily juggle because she is in it too. Two kids, a business, a marriage, and somehow also a commitment to showing up for her community. That is a lot of plates to keep spinning.

What she wants other moms to know is that wellness does not have to look a certain way. It can be messy and simple and woven into the ordinary parts of your day. She leads by example, not by telling you what to do, but by actually trying to slow down, listen more, and choose kindness when it would be easier not to. Honestly, that is the kind of role model I want my kids watching.

Tell us about your family.

Home for Tara is full of noise, movement, and love. She and her husband Shayan are raising two boys, ages four and eight. Shayan is not just her partner at home, he is also her business partner, which means they are basically always working together in some capacity. Somehow they make it work.

The moments Tara treasures most are the simple ones. A living room dance party, cooking a meal together, or just getting outside for some fresh air. Any Vancouver mom knows that getting your kids out the door and into nature does something for everyone’s mood. It is not fancy but it works every time.

What are your go-to activities, places, or hidden gems in Metro Vancouver that you and your family love?

Tennis is a big one for the Shayegan family. You will find them at local courts on many afternoons, practising, cheering each other on, and just enjoying being outside together. Beyond the courts, they are big fans of Vancouver’s parks. Packing a picnic and finding a quiet green space is their kind of reset.

The seawall, neighbourhood playgrounds, nearby beaches. Tara loves that Vancouver puts nature within reach no matter where you live. As a mom, there is something about being outside with your kids that makes everything feel a little more manageable. I think most of us can relate to that.

What’s something motherhood has taught you about yourself?

Patience. Resilience. A flexibility she did not know she had. Tara says motherhood has completely reshaped how she moves through the world. It has made her more present, more empathetic, and more honest with herself about what she actually needs.

She has also learned the value of boundaries, not the kind you post about, but the quiet, daily kind that keep you grounded. When she shows up calm and steady, her whole family feels it. And when she does not, they feel that too. That is the part no one warns you about, but Tara talks about it openly. Her kids are her greatest teachers, and she is still very much a student.
