Describe your business or career role.

I’m a proud Vancouver mom, born and raised here, raising my own kids in the same city that shaped me. First and foremost, I’m a mother—and that role has grounded me through every twist of life, including the gradual loss of my vision. As my sight faded, my purpose came into focus. I became a blind content creator, advocate, TEDx speaker, and author, sharing stories that reflect the beauty and challenges of navigating motherhood and life with a disability. Through my platform @purposeinview, I create content that brings the sighted and blind communities together through honesty, heart, and a little humour too. I speak out so that my children grow up in a world that sees disability differently: with inclusion, curiosity, and dignity. My journey isn’t picture-perfect but it’s rooted in love, resilience, and the belief that our stories can light the way for others.

What makes you a Vancouver Mom to follow?

Tell us what sets you apart:What sets me apart isn’t just what I’ve lost. It’s what I’ve discovered along the way. As a blind mom raising kids in Vancouver, I’ve learned to see in ways that go beyond eyesight. I navigate parenting, advocacy, and content creation with a white cane in one hand and purpose in the other. Through my platform, I share real, unfiltered moments—how I travel independently, advocate for accessible design, and show up for my family, even on the hardest days. I use storytelling to spark connection and help others view the world through a more inclusive lens. I believe motherhood isn’t about having it all together. It’s about showing up, growing with your children, and rewriting the script when life changes unexpectedly. I represent voices that are often overlooked and remind other moms that strength can look like softness, and resilience often begins in the quietest, most vulnerable places.

Tell us about your family.

My household is made up of my husband, Tony, and our wonderful kids—Chenessa, who recently got married to her husband Dan, Chris, and Lauren. Each of them brings something unique and beautiful to our lives, and I’m so proud of the family we’ve built together.

But to me, “home” goes far beyond the physical space. It’s where we exhale and be fully ourselves. It’s in my garden, in the rhythm of familiar walks, in laughter around the dinner table, and quiet coffee moments. Home is where love lives in the details—and where everyone feels seen, safe, and loved just as they are.

What are your go-to activities, places, or hidden gems in Metro Vancouver that you and your family love?

Metro Vancouver holds a special kind of magic—especially in the quiet, often overlooked corners where presence matters more than perfection.

Through my “Through My Lens” series, I capture the beauty of these places not with a camera, but with heart—through sound, texture, and connection.

VanDusen Botanical Garden is one of our favourite escapes. I may not see every bloom, but I can feel the petals, hear the wind in the trees, and smell the changing seasons. It invites stillness and presence.

Fort Langley is like stepping into a storybook—local cafés, small-town charm, and riverside walks that feel timeless. We often spend slow afternoons there sipping coffee and connecting.

The Vancouver waterfront is where I feel most in sync with my city—its rhythm, its heartbeat. Whether walking the Seawall or sitting and listening to the waves, it’s a place of reflection and grounding.

And we love a good road trip. Whether to the Okanagan or on spontaneous drives with no destination, it’s about the conversations, playlists, and little joys along the way.

And of course—food is our love language. From dim sum and sushi to weekend brunch and picnics, food brings us together and keeps family traditions alive.

What makes these places special isn’t what I see, but what I feel—and that’s the lens I share with others.

What’s something motherhood has taught you about yourself?

Motherhood has been my greatest teacher. It’s shown me that I am far more resilient than I ever imagined—capable of holding space for both the ache and the awe.

Becoming a mother at a young age, in the midst of uncertainty and personal struggle, taught me to rise before I was ready. It revealed the strength I didn’t yet see in myself, and the capacity to love so deeply that it rewrites your entire story.

It’s also taught me to embrace imperfection—to know that showing up, even when you feel like you’re falling apart, is still love. That presence matters more than perfection.

And now, navigating motherhood while losing my sight, I’ve learned to trust more—to trust my intuition, my children, and the invisible thread that holds us close. I’ve learned that you can still lead, still nurture, still guide your children—even when you can’t always see the path clearly.

In the end, motherhood has taught me that the most beautiful things in life are often felt, not seen—and that love, when rooted in presence and purpose, is the most powerful vision of all.
