VM Picks: Top Summer Camps in Vancouver, a Q&A with the YMCA Camps
Looking for a creative or active summer camp? One that keeps the kids brains or bodies engaged? Well our VM Picks: Top Vancouver Summer Camps list features some of our favourite camps for kids.
>> How to have a successful summer camp experience
You can’t go wrong with one of the many YMCA camps! We connected with the team to talk about about their huge range of day and overnight camps that help kids be active and build confidence in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
Give us a brief description of your camp.
YMCA Camps help kids ages 5 to 17 build confidence, leadership skills and environmental awareness. Families can choose from a range of day, overnight and speciality (outdoor adventure, sailing, golf, leadership development) camps offered throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Sunshine Coast. Regardless of the program you choose, at the Y, our passionate camps team will help your kids make lasting memories and be active in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
What makes your summer camp unique?
At our camps, there are no classrooms or cliques, no homework or tests. Instead, there are opportunities for self-discovery, growth and skill building. At a YMCA camp, kids don’t need cell phones or screens to connect with others or to keep them engaged. Our programs are designed to challenge our campers, help them uncover their leadership abilities and set them on the path to reaching their potential.
What are 2 highlights of your camp, something the kids will talk about after camp is over.
Whether it’s a kayaking adventure, a scenic hike or an afternoon conquering the climbing wall, there is no shortage of great activities for campers to enjoy throughout the summer. However, year after year, the two things kids talk about long after the camp season ends are how many new friendships they made at camp and how our YMCA camps gave them a place and an experience where they could just be themselves.
What will kids learn at your camp?
Our day and overnight camps provide experiences and activities that help kids build independence, gain confidence, step out of their comfort zone and develop environmental awareness. Furthermore, our specialty camps offer a wide range of area-specific skill development opportunities including sailing, golf, team building, leadership development and social impact.
