What to do in Vancouver: Khatsahlano Street Party
Vancouver loves to celebrate Summer by shutting down entire streets and throwing a big party! Whether it’s Commercial Drive, Davie Street or Broadway the locals know that these events are once a year and not to be missed. In 2011 Kitsilano added one more more iconic street to the festivities with Khatsahlano Street Party. On Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Kitsilano’s West 4th Avenue between Burrard and MacDonald you can find your fill on the patio of your favourite restaurant or enjoy some of the 40 famous food trucks who will be serving it up all day.
Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s biggest FREE music and arts festival! The 10-block fair takes to the streets on Saturday July 12th, 2014. There will be eight stages and more than 50 musical performances. The street will fill with local artists and merchants as well as street performers. Plus – brand new this year – a licensed outdoor beer garden.

Rain or shine these festivals are for everyone and kid-friendly too. This year the Family Zone at Trafalagar Street will feature games, balloon artists, face painting, a roving juggler and yo-yo artist, and as main attractions a line up of performances kids will love. Highlights include Rockin’ Robin, Wild Moccasins, Matt Henry and Chris Hamilton.
As a family of four we opted to take on the day without a lot of “equipment”. With over 118,000 people coming through during the day, I’d recommend leaving the big strollers and bikes off the main route as it can make maneuvering the crowed more frustrating than efficient. Taking transit also alleviates any parking headaches that cane comes with a big crowd. FYI the 04, 07, and 84 Lines will be rerouted from Burrard Street to MacDonald Street along Broadway all day on Saturday, July 12, 2014.
