Know if a fabulous Vancouver jewellery designer? Nominate them for our 30 Essential Jewellery Designer list.
Ryon Patterson nominated Branwen Kemp for our 30 Essential Jewellery Designer list: “Branwen Kemp is a fantastic designer. Her pieces are special and unique, and she is great to work with when ordering a custom piece from her.” Branwen draws inspiration from the nature of the west coast and the cool sleekness of metal. She often reuses and recycles when possible. Branwen will be graduating from Vancouver Metal Art School later this year and is looking forward to a full-time career as a jewellery designer.
Why did you get into jewellery design?
I started making my own jewellery about seven years ago. As I began to wear my pieces I started to get requests for them. My line has developed since.
How would you characterize your style?
I like clean lines as well as the charm of vintage, so I would call it eclectic with a modern edge.
Tell us a bit about your company.
The name of my fashion line is Chicadora. My specialty is cutout work, often trees, animals or anything people request. I also use antique sterling spoons to create rings and pendants. I have a constant changing line, which evolves with each new season or wonderful request.
Who are your clients?
My clients are often people are who want to support local design as well as have an appreciation for my aesthetic.
What do you think moms should know about your jewellery?
I get many requests for hand stamped custom necklaces, often incorporating child’s names and birthdates. It is a chance for someone to have something unique and very personal.
Where can people buy your jewellery?
I sell my line at Favourite Gifts, which stocks gifts and accessories from independent Canadian designers. It is located on the second floor of the Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. I also am an artist in residence there, so I get a chance to meet my customers and create custom designs with them.
