Meet the final group in our 30 fabulous Vancouver Mom Blogger nominees (the rest are here, here, here, and here) and get ready to vote starting Monday!

Nicole of Resolving Timeline Issues

Nicole (pictured above) is mom to two-year-old Shannon (known as “the Poptart” on her blog, a reference to Battlestar Galactica), and lives with her partner Darren in Maple Ridge.Says Nicole:

I work full-time out of the home, and follow the number one rule to avoid being dooced: don’t blog about work. My life is made immensely easier by the fact that we have a live-in nanny through the Live-In Caregiver program. In my “spare time” I am a Master Instructor Trainer for Red Cross Water Safety Services. This means that not only do I teach the people who teach your kids and friends and family how to swim, but I mentor the people who teach those people learning to teach.

I actually started blogging a long, long time before I became a mom. I originally started blogging mainly because I could: I had enough knowledge to use FrontPage and read a little HTML. Now, I blog because it gives me a community. Although being a mom is a huge part of my identity, I do have other interests and other facets to my identity. Blogging lets me explore all of that in my own way and link up with other people who let me expand those facets.

Naomi Jesson of Monkee Mama

Mom to two little monkees and wife to another, Naomi spends most of her time combining her passion for Therapeutic Recreation and her passion for her family. There is never a dull moment as Naomi infectiously laughs her way to perfecting the fine art of monkee-ing around with her family in Surrey. She says:

I was going through a lot of emotions and personal turmoil at the time I started to blog. I had just given birth to my daughter Easton and my Dad had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. As my Dad entered hospice care and I started being a mom to two, I really needed an outlet for myself, for everything. It was a place to laugh, to cry, to feel all sorts of emotions, without having to ask me face to face about sensitive subjects.

I love the connection I get with blogging, with the blogging community; connecting with my readers; helping other families connect with our local communities; making someone laugh; helping someone not feel that they were alone in their experiences or viewpoints.

I love to encourage other families to engage in leisure and learn through play, by giving ideas about leisure activities that families can do together. I really like to keep families informed about local community events that are happening in Surrey and surrounding areas. I hope to inspire and help families increase their quality time together.

Brandee Brown of Chill Mama Chill

Brandee Brown is a marketing professional turned mommy blogger, with a passion for writing and a lust for shoes. Mother to 1-year-old daughter Everly, Brandee spends her days between work and home, carefully balancing the role of the working mother. Lover of wine, cupcakes and travel, Brandee enjoys live music, cooking (when she has time) and fashion (sans baby snot if possible). She says:

When I first became pregnant, I found myself looking for an outlet to share my thoughts, feelings and experiences. I wanted to chronicle my journey, while at the same time enjoying the benefits of writing. With my husband’s family living in another province and my friends and loved ones leading busy lives, I started to write posts with the intention of just sharing information. Before I knew it, I developed a little following and began writing for the “masses”. My blogging life shifted from anecdotal pregnancy details to full on tales of my adventures and woes.

For me, blogging is therapy. It’s a place where I can rant and rave and really be honest about my experience as a mother. It allows me the opportunity to truly express myself to those who are not only interested in what I’m saying, but who also understand where I am coming from. For me, blogging is about expanding my community of mothers, as well as about trying to help other mothers out. I’ve always appreciated reading about the experiences of other mothers, and knowing I am not alone in the way I feel.

Deanna Regan Wigmore of A Mother’s Tonic

Deanna Regan Wigmore is a Vancouver based writer and blogger. She is a runner and yogi with a penchant for wine and social media, approaching mid-life and adamant that the best is yet to come. She says:

After staying at home to raise my children for the past ten years, I wanted to work again, but in a capacity that would accommodate my three busy daughters. Every day I sat down at the computer to create my resume, and everyday I wondered how to account for a ten year gap in paid work experience. I had become an expert in multi-tasking while my business knowledge floundered. I felt paralyzed, and unsure how to climb this mountain before me. I started a blog to get back to my writing roots, as a creative outlet and hobby, and as a way of avoiding my resume!

What did I get out of my blog? Quite literally, me. Blogging has been an empowering exercise. When I vent my frustrations and insecurities, I am supported by my readers. When I share things that I am excited about or find helpful, people respond positively and I feel useful. Post by post, day by day, I am feeling my voice return to me, loud and strong like it once was. Motherhood has many benefits, but in all of its commotion I forgot about me. I’m back.

Bruna of Bees With Honey

Bruna is an elementary school teacher in Vancouver where she lives with her husband and three daughters. She says: My husband is my best friend and the love of my life. We’ve been married six years and I thank God for him every day of my life. My other love is my children. They are my world and my purpose in life. Nothing makes me feel prouder than being their mother. Motherhood, with all of its challenges, is truly the most rewarding of life experiences.

I took up blogging because I enjoy writing and blogging provides me a venue through which I can share my journey through life. I love to share what inspires me as well as sharing the challenges I face trying to balance a career and a home life. Blogging gives me a sense of purpose outside from being a mom and a teacher. I love connecting with other moms who blog and have made many friends in the process.

Amanda of Lilahbility

Amanda is a working mom, speech therapist, and martial artist living in Vancouver with her husband and daughter, 22-month-old Lilah, also known as “the Lilahbility.” She says:

Becoming a mom sparked in me a bit of an identity crisis, since I had always identified myself as so many things: speech therapist, martial artist, athlete, wife, friend, sister, daughter, etc., but when Lilah was a newborn I felt so overwhelmed that all I had the time and mental energy for was being her mommy, to the exclusion of all else. I started my blog on a whim, not knowing who I was blogging for or why I was doing it; only that I needed to type it out. Over the past year, my blog has become a way for me to process my thoughts on motherhood and capture the snapshots of Lilah’s development. Once I got into the swing of things, my fingers flying across the keyboard and my brain spewing all kinds of thoughts and feelings, I realized why it felt so right: I was doing something that was mostly for myself, but was still dedicated to my daughter.  I don’t craft, I don’t scrapbook, I don’t journal, and I never was able to complete the pregnancy and baby books I intended to use to keep track of the milestones.   So blogging is my therapy, my outlet, and my memory book, as well as a way to connect with other people who might be experiencing some of the same feelings as I am at any given stage.

This may sound melodramatic to those who don’t blog, but blogging has changed my perspective on motherhood and life in general. I see things through a different lens, and I try to find the funny in situations that may not feel all that funny at the time. I have also developed a huge passion for photography, though I am still very much an amateur.  I have my camera with me now during much of the time that we share as a family, always looking for that one great shot, and I owe a good portion of my motivation to improve at both writing and photography to my humble little blog.
