FIRST EVER LIVE HAMMOCK-MAKING EVENT ON GRANVILLE ISLAND
AT THE HAMUHK HANGOUT PLACE
The Hamuhk Hangout Place, a long-time gem of Granville Island and Canada’s only specialized hammock store, is excited to announce a three-day event celebrating the culture and age-old tradition of hammock-making in Mexico.
For the first time in the store’s remarkable 27-year history, a master hammock weaver will travel all the way from Merida, to give live demonstrations of Mayan hammock making. The event will be showcasing the beautiful, intricate work that goes into crafting each one-of-a-kind hammock chair.
This is an opportunity for us to share this 3000-year-old craft and its rich history with our community on Granville Island. The skill, the passion, and the artistry that goes into every hammock is truly a sight to behold.
Visitors to Granville Island will not only witness the hammock-making process from start to finish but will also have a chance to win the very hammocks created during the demonstration. This offers an exceptional opportunity to own a piece of Mayan heritage, handcrafted by a master artisan right in front of their eyes.
We invite everyone to come and be part of this unique celebration of craft, culture, and community. Whether you are a hammock enthusiast, an admirer of artisanal handcrafts, or simply seeking an engaging day out on Granville Island, this event promises to deliver an extraordinary experience.
