For the past 46 years, Carousel Theatre for Young People has been a Vancouver’s central destination for young people to engage in meaningful theatrical art, either by seeing our Mainstage plays or by attending our drama classes. This summer we are thrilled to offer a wide variety of Summer Camps on Granville Island!

Bursaries for camps are available, please check out our website for further details on the bursary application process.

Drama Mini Camp – For Ages 4-6 (July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, and/or July 31-August 4)

A 2.5 hour daily camp for Ages 4-6 years. Ready to explore, be creative and dress up? This Mini Drama Camp is a week of guided storytelling, dress-up, imaginative silliness, and theatre exercises that gives children an introduction to theatre and creative play.

Improv Camp – For Ages 7-10 & 10-13 (July 17-21)

This full-day drama camp will teach the basics of improvisational theatre, short-forms drama games, and theatre sports before moving into long-form improv scene work and dramatic storytelling.

Working with professional and experienced Vancouver improvisers, throughout the week, students will combine their favourite improv exercises and formats and learn how to apply their skills in an improv show setting.

As it is improv, the exact structure of the camp is subject to change according to what the students’ goals are and what kind of improv they want to explore! No previous experience required – this camp is perfect for all skill sets!

Drama Camp – For Ages 7-10 & 10-13 (July 24-28 and/or July 31-August 4)

Our full-day Drama Camps introduce young people to theatre through games, storytelling, improvisation, and character creation. Participants will learn to use acting techniques to explore creativity and individual expression. Building off of the students’ interests and unique perspectives, students will use theatre-making methods for exploring and creating new works, whether for a solo actor, a small group, or for the full ensemble. Young actors will develop performance tools while sharing their ideas in a collaborative space.

Drag Camp – For Ages 7-11 & 12-17 (July 4-7, July 10-14)

Do you enjoy expressing yourself through clothing, makeup and performance? Do you have an alter ego that is just waiting to hit the stage?
