Smiles have always been my thing, but I haven’t always been a paid photographer.
While I’ve always been the go-to amateur photographer for my own family reunions, social clubs and school events, I haven’t taken photos professionally until recently.
For nearly fourteen years, I was a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). I worked for a periodontist, focusing on implants to help patients have healthy smiles. I was injured on the job, and my injury forced me to explore other career options. I felt I finally had the chance to consider my lifelong passion of family photography as a real career choice.
My spouse Shawn, a successful web designer, kept saying, “You’ve got a knack for this!” I finally listened. In 2009, after my older kid turned three, I started freelancing.
I quickly found a network of professional photographers eager to share tips, tricks and techniques. I’ve been inspired by some amazing photographers throughout the world—from BC-based Jasalyn Thorne and her exquisite wedding shots to insights from Me Ra Koh’s newsletter for photographers. They’ve each helped me to build my confidence.
Chickadee Photos is focused on infant, baby and child photography for families across the Lower Mainland. Young families count on me for my invaluable talent to engage kids during a shoot to capture photos of the whole family—from infants to grandparents.
During the past five years, I’ve added many family photo shoots to my portfolio. With the launch of my redesigned website at the start of 2014, I hope to reach even more families in need of photography services in Vancouver and across the Lower Mainland.
