Big Fat Hen for Your Little Chick
When it comes to baby gear, sometimes you just can’t find exactly what you want on the store shelves. Most of us pick the closest option and carry on with our nesting, but mother-daughter team Emily Gidden and Lee Capon decided to take their ideas and create exactly the products they wanted. And so, Big Fat Hen was hatched during Lee’s maternity leave, after friends and family raved about the blankets that Emily and Lee had created.
Big Fat Hen’s Blankets Make an Extra-Cozy Nest
Big Fat Hen combines fresh design that appeals to the modern parent with environmentally-friendly organic cotton and Oeko tek 100 certified dyes.
These plush baby blankets, sleep sacks and mini-blankets combine functionality and durability with a designer look. The blankets are sized to fit perfectly in a stroller, car seat or bassinet, and they have 100% cotton designer fabric on the front and a soft plush back that sits next to the baby. The sleep sacks feel amazing inside and out and are 100% organic cotton. The minis are miniature versions of the blankets, designed as a comfort companion or lovey, with loops of soft satin ribbon for babies to manipulate.
Modern, Canadian Made Baby Gear
Big Fat Hen’s blankets, sleep sacks and minis are all carefully designed and manufactured in Canada. Lee says, “We work to keep all our business local. We source our fabric from Canadian distributors, we manufacture in Vancouver, and we use local people for website and graphic design. Our sleep sacks truly are a Canadian product. The fabric is made in Canada and we manufacture locally in Vancouver.”
These plush blankets are also available in local boutique baby stores, such as Hip Baby, and through Big Fat Hen’s online shop.
Big Fat Hen’s blankets retail for $58, the organic sleep sacks range from $79.70 to $84.90 depending on the tog, and the minis are $24. These blankets are a great choice for baby shower gifts to suit any budget, or simply for outfitting your own baby’s nursery. For more information, you can find Big Fat Hen on Facebook and Twitter.
