Vancouver Car-Free Days 2018, from Main St to Denman St

There’s something decadent and rebellious about walking down a carless street, especially if it’s normally a giant traffic jam. Add live performances, kiosks, stalls, food and activities, and you have the makings of an incredible community vibe.  So hop on your bike, take the bus or walk over to the one closet to you, but leave the car at home.

Car Free Day Denman St West End

Saturday June 16th, noon to 7 pm, 2018

From Denman Street from Robson to Davie, Vancouver’s densely packed West End brings together business owners, community organizations, artists and volunteers to seed the idea of building a better, more livable city. There are music stages and jam sessions to listen to, art being exhibited and created live on the street and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or something to drink.

Car-Free Day Main St

Sunday June 17, noon to 7 pm, 2018

From Broadway to 30th on Main St, Main Street is the biggest of Vancouver’s Car Free Day festivals spanning 21 blocks with 15 stages and mini festivals along the entire street. This is a fun, family-friendly event with kid-zones, skateboarders, funky artisan shops and popular food vendors. You can really taste the flavour of Main Street with extended patios from many restaurants.

Car-Free Day Commercial Drive

Sunday July 8, noon to 7 pm

From Venables to Grandview, the Drive is  where it all began… 13 years ago. Stretching across 15 blocks, the fest features amazing local artisans, musicians, community activities, delicious food, tons of entertainment and activities for all ages. As the place that Car Free Day began, Commercial Drive stays true to its grassroots beginnings and the story behind the festival. There is a strong message of advocacy and activism for providing car free spaces and green culture for the community.

Car-free Block Parties Kitsilano

Saturday and Sunday June 16/17 & July 1/2,  2018

Kitsilano does something different for Car-Free Day. Instead of closing off a major street, people throughout Kits host block parties with their neighbours. The block parties are as individual as the people who pull them together. Some have dancing, some have music, some have couches, chairs and carpets in the middle of the street and some share chips and a drink together! All of them are a fun, relaxing chance to hang out with the people who live in your neighbourhood.
