Family Day Weekend ahoy! And the weather is looking mighty fine. If you’re wondering what to do, here are our picks for family day events that the kids will love. Almost everyone has a deal on tickets and passes, from 1/2 price tix at Grouse Mountain, the Sea to Sky Gondola and Britannia Mine Museum to a $5 combo pass to VanDusen and Bloedel Conservatory. Hang out with your favourite sea creatures at the aquarium. Meet a tortoise and a penguin, pose for family pictures with Ollie the Otter or catch aquatic-themed puppet shows, story time and face painting. Talk about a swimmingly good time.

Kick off your Family Day weekend without the kids! On Feb 9th, Kidtropolis hosts Kids Night Out Event. Drop your kids off at Kidtropolis for the evening while you go out for dinner, shopping or a movie. Book it! PS: Kidtropolis is open all Family Day weekend and on Monday, February 12, will feature balloon twisting (from Twist Parties), family fun games with prizes, arts & crafts and story-time (from Believe Entertainment).

Hang out at the Burnaby Village Museum‘s carousel for an afternoon of children’s entertainment, art activities, heritage games and unlimited carousel rides for $6.50 on Feb 12 from 11 am to 2 pm.
Pond skating is now for the birds (quite literally), so if you feel like lacing up, skating at the Robson Square Ice Rink, Vancouver’s only outdoor ice skating venue is FREE at Robson Square runs until February 14th. Skate rentals are $4; cleats and helmets are $2.

Get into winter this Family Day by taking a trip along the 99 to the Sea to Sky Gondola. They have a full weekend of family fun planned including snowshoeing & snow tubing, s’mores around the outdoor bonfire; an old-fashioned Canadian Sugar Shack and featured family meals. On Sunday only there will also be face-painting and live music. Plus tickets are half price all long weekend!
Get into both VanDusen & the Bloedel Conservatory for only $5 on Family Day. A single admission is only $3! This 55-acre park in the city has lots of space to run and roam. Spot local wildlife, have a picnic, or just breathe deep.
On February 11th, take a tour around this historic building in Steveston, and learn about how fishing and canning helped build Vancouver. The old canning line will be clunking into action too. Celebrate Family Day weekend by bringing your entire family to UBC on Sunday, February 11. Kids and youth will take on adult-sized roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate and promote arts and culture at UBC. They get to participate in dance, poetry, storytelling, theatre (and costuming) and there will be kid-friendly food trucks, photobooths, a Thunderbird marching band, crafts, and prizes.
Blacksmithing demonstrations! Historic weapons demonstrations! Wander around the Fort Langley historic site and peer into the blacksmith shop, cooper’s shop, and more. Kids can dress up in 19th-century clothes and get their photos taken, and put them to work doing old-school chores. Maybe they won’t complain about loading the dishwasher quite so often. Free admission for children and youth for all of 2018.
Wintry family activities at the Peak of Vancouver on Grouse Mountain are 50% off all day on Monday, Feb 12th. Activities include a charity pancake breakfast by donation, Grizwald the Bear (take a few snaps of their loveable mascot), Cleo the resident barn owl, a family “Shoot the puck for prizes” on the skating rink, a lunch special and a sweets station. This is easily a whole day outing.
