Spring Break 2017: Five easy family getaways

Not up for a whole sale vacation this Spring Break? How about a mini-getaway? The options for family fun within an easy drive from the Lower Mainland are nearly endless. Here are a favourite five, with options for every budget.

River Rock Resort

By far the easiest option for a single night getaway, the River Rock Resort is a surprisingly family friendly destination. The large, indoor saltwater pool is surrounded by plants and natural landscaping, with a three story ceiling and 70-foot waterslide. There are many onsite dining options, or hop on the Canada Line to try something new.

Harrison Hot Springs Resort

With a wide variety of accommodation and dinning, including the charmingly retro Copper Room, and beautiful indoor and outdoor mineral pool options, Harrison is a crowd pleaser for sure. Located on the shores of Harrison Lake, there are many nearby activities like hiking, paddling or exploring farm country if your crew needs a change of scenery.

Pemberton

Although we love Whistler, peak season rates can quickly price this destination out of the budget for many families. The quiet and well-appointed Pemberton Valley Lodge is only a 30-minute drive north of Whistler Village, perfect for easy access to skiing, boarding or the tube park without the astronomical accommodation costs. With fully equipped kitchens, heated outdoor pool and hot tub, plus walking distance to local restaurants, you may not want to hit Whistler at all!

Saltspring Island

Enjoy off season rates at many resort style properties on Saltspring. A ferry trip always adds to the excitement of any weekend away, and for an outdoors-ey family, mild weather makes Saltspring a year-round destination to explore beaches and diverse hiking, plus craft breweries, wineries, cheesemakers and farming.

Manning Park

Manning offers rustic accommodation in the middle of the BC wilderness, but with amenities that are beginning to rival larger resorts, including a tube park, outdoor ice skating, boarding and skiing. This is another great option to stretch dollars for maximum winter fun and appreciate the beauty of the Cascade Mountain range.
