Sum of Style: Pampering You

Guest post by Joyce Lau.

Mother’s Day has come and gone and now you’re counting down to the next “special” day when you’ll get a little pampering, some form of appreciation, or even a day by yourself. But why wait?

Welcome to Anthropologie

Treat yourself to something special and don’t wait until the next closet meltdown to get yourself something pretty. The talk of the town right now is the arrival of one of the most coveted US stores to finally arrive in Vancouver. Anthropologie, now available in South Granville, might just be the place for you to sneak out for a couple of hours.

Five reasons to love the dress

We fell in love with this stunning dress for five simple reasons:

  1. Its low v-neck opens up the face so we don’t look matronly.
  2. The flutter sleeves camouflages those arms we’re not too happy about.
  3. The waistline and tulip shape nips our waistline & hides our hips.
  4. The dramatic pattern helps to hide stains.
  5. The amazing fabric back gives a slightly seductive attitude without coming off too strong.

Cost per wear

Now the truth is, we might be a little intimidated by the price of $168. Allow us to introduce to you a concept called Cost Per Wear (CPW).

Of course, if we were to only wear this dress once, then the CPW would be $168. But we’ve learned to never buy anything that ends up as an orphan in our closet. So thinking about the number of occasions that will come up and the number of different ways you can wear this dress, you can predict that you will wear it least ten times. Now that’s a CPW of $16.80/wear.  Pretty good.

Now compare that to a dress you got just because it was on sale for $25 and you wore it once out of desperation–the CPW would be $25/wear.

Comparing the two options, this stunning dress from Anthopologie would be a much better investment.

Shoes, bag, hat, voila!

To keep this look as effortless as possible, we recommend pairing it with this fun mustard flip-flop from Payless. The ruffle detailing brings out the pattern in the dress without stealing its thunder. Add on a runway-ready handbag without the designer price tag and get inspired by the royal wedding and top off the look with a straw hat. For only $9.99, you’re saving money and your skin too.
