Podcast: Vancouver Mom, CEO and Recording Artist Marika Siewert
When you were a kid did you ever find yourself standing in front of your bedroom mirror, singing into your hairbrush, imagining that you were recording the music video for your hit song? Many of us did. Vancouver mom Marika Siewert is actually turning that childhood dream into a reality. Her new album Unstoppable was released on November 6, 2012. And as if being a mom and a Top 40 recording artist isn’t enough, she’s also the CEO of Emerton Records. We recently had the chance to connect with Marika, and we’re pleased to share that interview with you today on the podcast.
Music, Motherhood and Dreams
Whether we’ve ever actually pursued music as a career or not, most of us know that the music business isn’t an easy one. In the first place, it’s hard to break into. In the second place, the schedule isn’t always family-friendly. We were eager to hear from Marika how she manages to combine her various roles. We also wanted to know how she got here, releasing her latest album. She chronicles her journey during the podcast, and if you’re harbouring any dreams of your own (musical or otherwise), you’ll want to hear what she has to say about staying true to herself.
In addition to being a recording artist, as the CEO of Emerton Records Marika works with other artists, helping them pursue their own dreams. During our podcast she offered some very practical tips for up-and-coming artists (hint: get stickers), as well as their parents. She also discussed the work she does, and how she chooses the artists she works with. Marika strives to act as a mentor for people getting into music. We can all use a little bit of advice and support from time-to-time, so it was great to hear about how Marika’s offering that to others.
