Mom-Friendly Fitness at Bodies by London

Article by Lori McGrath, who gives us the scoop on the mom-friendly fitness programs at Bodies by London in Port Coquitlam.

Are you wondering how you are going to get your pre-pregnancy body back? Or do you want to get into shape but don’t have anyone to watch your little ones? Suburban Vancouver moms need look no further, Bodies By London in Port Coquitlam has you covered.

Understanding, Compassion and Support

The first thing I saw when I walked into the Bodies By London fitness studio to take a class last week was a baby being changed on the facility’s change table. I knew immediately that this place was both mom friendly and baby friendly. I talked to instructor and owner Heather London who says that moms don’t need to worry about their little ones disturbing anyone at her studio. “Babies cry, and when you are surrounded by a group of moms all in the same boat, you will get nothing but understanding, compassion and support,” she says.

The class I signed up for was a Spin/Yoga class. Even though I got lost on the way there and was a few minutes late, Heather took the time to help me get set up and comfortable with my bike. As we rode, Heather was full of positive encouragement and tips to keep us spinning hard and feeling good about ourselves. I was totally freaked out as I am not in the best of shape and had heard spin was a killer. I survived – it was a great workout and I managed to keep breathing and moving my legs until it was time to start yoga class.

Bright Fitness Studio, Friendly Vibe

Once I was able to concentrate on something besides breathing, I noticed the small childcare room just to the side of the workout area. Although I didn’t have my son with me that day, I learned that affordable childcare is available during the mornings from Monday to Friday; you can even see your little ones playing through the window as you work out. Non-mobile babies hang out at the side of the fitness area so moms are nearby for a cuddle or a quick change. Kid free fitness classes are also available evenings and weekends and everyone is welcome. “We can train moms that are Olympic athletes to moms that have never exercised before,” adds Heather.

It’s a great setup – the fitness studio is clean and bright with a nice selection of equipment and the vibe is friendly and fun. I recommend checking out the Bodies by London website to explore the great variety of classes that are available: mom and baby boot camp, spin, kickboxing, something called Urban HIIT, prenatal fitness classes, yoga, and lots of combination classes which is a great way to mix up your exercise program.
