Favourite Things: Angie Bounassisi

Angie and her husband, Tom, are proud new parents to a 3-month-old daughter. When Angie is not working, she loves to cycle, kite board, and have play dates with her friends who have also recently had babies. Angie and her husband own 8 West Cosmetic Surgery in Vancouver.

Favorite thing for your kids

I am so glad that I had newborn portraits of mydaughter taken. Her Auntie Kerry knitted her the cutest little green pea pod and our photographer, Lyndsay London (who was incredible) captured the loveliest facial expressions! She is growing and changing so quickly that I am thankful I will always have these photos to cherish.

Favorite thing for you

I can’t express how happy I am that summer is almost here so that I can get back to my favorite sport: cycling. This year I’m particularly excited to be doing the Gran Fondo  race from Vancouver to Whistler with a group of my girlfriends. One of my favorite training rides starts off with a coffee at Artigiano at Park Royal, then out to Horseshoe Bay and then to the top of Cypress mountain, then back to Park Royal for brunch at Milestones. The whole ride takes almost three hours, which means I can eat whatever I want for brunch. There’s nothing like a well-deserved meal.

Favorite thing for work

I love being on maternity leave, but I also love getting a little bit of work done every day. Having a newborn during the winter has meant that I’m spending a lot of time at home. When my daughter is sleeping, I’ve started brushing up on my software skills with the video training available on www.lynda.com. The quality of the training is incredibly high and I love that I can learn valuable skills on my own time line. I’m currently working on the WordPress module.

Favorite place in Vancouver

I love Kitsilano. We can ride our bikes right out of our garage to the fantastic routes at UBC, and the restaurants and shops of 4th Avenue are walking distance away. There is such a great mix of shopping, activities and restaurants to choose from.

Favorite birthday gift idea

Lately we’ve started cooking meals for each other instead of giving gifts. For the last birthday, I made braised lamb shanks with truffle mashed potatoes.

Favorite kids’ book

My 3-month-old daughter doesn’t quite yet appreciate the many books I have for her. I try to read them to her, but she looks everywhere but at the pages. In terms of learning, I’m getting a tonne of use out of my Apple TV. I use it to connect to my iTunes and iPhoto collection and play Rockabye Baby (rock songs reproduced into lullabies, so cute) and slide shows of recent family events. I tell her about all the people in the pictures along with stories of what we were doing that day. She loves it.

Favorite Vancouver restaurant

Hapa Izakaya in Kits has all the dishes I miss from when I lived in Tokyo. What’s amazing about this place is that the food and the service is consistently amazing every time we go. I love how the staff yells “Irasshai mase!” when we arrive.
