Boxing Day Blues? No More.

Article by Joyce Lau, sharing the scoop on finding real deals at Boxing Day sales.

With less than a week to go until Boxing Day, many of us are thinking about all the post-Christmas sales we’ll be hitting. Maybe you’ve had your eye on a new dress or a nice pair of shoes for months, biding your time. But two weeks after you buy a new piece, how many of you regret those purchases?

Maybe that new pair of shoes is still in your closet. Or that dress you thought you could wear to a New Year’s party? Now you’re not so sure. Or maybe it’s not what you bought, but what you didn’t buy. That’s because you keep buying the same thing over and over again.

Well, you’re not alone.

At Yummy Mummy Makeovers we hear this all the time. Many people opt for the bandage solution of buying sale items. But when it’s time to go out – you have nothing to wear!  Here are the three underlying problems you encounter when shopping the Boxing Day sales:

1. Sale Suckers

Every woman is born with a sixth sense that lets us spot a sales signs from a mile away. We feel really proud of ourselves, holding those receipts in our hands like trophies when we save over 50%. Or when we spend less than $20. But let me give you a word of advice: it’s only a real deal when you’d be willing to pay full price for it.

2. The Funny Mirror

We’ve all been to the carnival fun house and laughed at ourselves in the distorted mirrors. The sad reality is that even in normal mirrors we can see ourselves in a distorted way. We try to hide our tummies or our butts, but really we end up accentuating them. It’s time to be honest with ourselves and embrace what we’ve got. Get a body type analysis and learn to dress it once and for all.

3. Peer Pressure

Do you shop with your best friend, your mom or even your husband? If so, you know that everyone has an idea of what they want you to wear. The thing is, at Yummy Mummy Makeovers we believe you know what you want…you just don’t know how to get there.  Start by asking yourself honest questions. What do you like? If you could wear anything, what would it be? Your clothing should be an extension of you. Through the process of self-reflection, you’ll be able to get a better idea of what you want to say visually and then begin to match your clothes to it.
