Wondering what to do in Vancouver now that the cold fall weather has set in? Why not take a trip down the Yellow Brick Road with your favourite characters from The Wizard of Oz? Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new adaptation of the Oscar-winning classic is now playing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
This rejuvenated version of the familiar favourite not only features memorable scenes from the original screenplay, but incorporates new songs and humorous one-liners that will have you in stitches! Dorothy, played by Danielle Wade – winner of CBC’s reality show Over The Rainbow, is as enchanting and endearing as her predecessor Judy Garland, and each of her accompanying trio of friends bring their own flare, sass and comedy to the show.
What to do in Vancouver for the Whole Family
The performance definitely offers kid-friendly Vancouver fun, filled with catchy tunes, mesmerizing choreography, and stunning visual effects that will leave you believing in magic. The costumes are elaborate, believable and bursting with colour, and the normally terrifying Wicked Witch is more humorous than horrifying.
Highlights for the kids include seeing the Wicked Witch melt before their eyes, seeing Glinda the Good Witch fly onto the stage dazzling in a sparkle-adorned gown that reaches the span of the stage, and a real-life Toto that plays the role like a professional actor.
Not Just for Kids
While a memorable and magical experience for the kids, the show is equally as suitable for a ladies’ night out, or a date night. Filled with underlying sarcasm and wit, the show is as enjoyable for the adult audience as it is for the younger attendees.
This is a can’t-miss, memorable performance that’s worth the ticket price.
