The Vancouver International Children’s Festival celebrates 40 years this year, so it’s going to be a party! Head to Granville Island, and catch a professional show produced especially for kids. Take a tour through the activity village and climb a cake, get lost in a maze or head to the zen room for some chill time. Here are some shows created specifically for the littlest of theatre goers including babies and toddlers.
Three Kids Fest shows for the little ones
For babies & toddlers: Pulse
This Mexican show is a rare opp for babies to experience live theatre made just for them! Using music and movement, this intimate performance is designed to capture the imagination and curiosity of babies. The actors and wooden blocks become captivating shapes, sounds, movements and possibilities of the performance. As the suspense builds, fascinated babies want to know what will happen next. Ages 0-3.
For 1-7s : Fred and Friends
For their 40th, the Fest is bringing back some past faves for a musical extravaganza with Fred Penner and his friends, Charlotte Diamond, Norman Foote and Rick Scott all on stage for one great show. Sing along with four of Canada’s best-loved children’s singers. Charlotte Diamond and Fred Penner also perform solo shows. For ages 1-7
For 3-7s: Grug and the Rainbow
Delighting audiences around the world, Grug and the Rainbow is a great example of children’s theatre at its best. Bursting with curiosity and joy, Grug loves a good adventure! In fact, he loves it so much that he sets off on a quest to capture a rainbow that always seems just beyond his grasp. Children will be fascinated with the accessible storytelling and exquisite set that bring an imaginary world to life. For ages 3-7.
The activity village is always a big hit. Face painting, spin art, origami, circus arts, human board games, a musical playground, CanoeKids, and a gigantic climbable cake – this is a place for your little people to get right in there and play. If you’ve got a show ticket, you get in with your wristband. You can also buy activity village wristbands for $6 per person on site.
