Win Four Tickets to The Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Diane Wild November 22, 2010 17

Like hanging up the stockings or picking out your family’s Christmas tree, enjoying The Nutcracker is a tradition that the holidays just don’t feel complete without. Now here’s your chance to win four tickets to see the Goh Ballet’s production of this beloved ballet.

The Goh Ballet presents The Nutcracker with a cast of more than 200 dancers; extravagant, hand-painted sets; two childrens’ choirs and live orchestration fro the musicians of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. The National Ballet of Canada Principal Dancers Sonia Rodriguez and Piotr Stanczyk will perform the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier Prince. In addition, the ballet included unusual twists and innovations entirely unique to traditional ballet, like the casting of an actual magician as Drosselmeyer, and the addition of gymnasts, ballroom dancers, contortionists, and true folk dancers who brought new dimensions, colour, and fun to the piece.

Based on the classic E.T.A. Hoffman fairy tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” The Nutcracker tells the story of Clara, who receives a Nutcracker doll from her godfather Drosselmeyer. The young girl later dreams that her Nutcracker comes to life and leads an army of toy soldiers into battle against the evil Mouse King. When the Mouse King is defeated, Clara and her Nutcracker Prince journey through the beautiful Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets, witnessing a world of breathtaking magic along the way.

Tickets can be bought at Ticketmaster.ca. Last year’s shows sold out – booking tickets early is strongly recommended.

Your whole family can enjoy this treasured classic – and now you can win a set of four tickets!

My daughter and I have been attending the Nutcrackker since she was 5 years old. She is now 13 and still looks forward to this magical night of ballet, especially this year because one of her close friends is performing in it! Go Jake.

One of my daughter’s good friends moved away to Vancouver last year, and he will be one of the children dancing in this production. I have seen it once before an know she would LOVE it, and love to see her friend perform.

My son and daughter have alwyays been too young to go, but I think that at 3 and 6 years old they are ready to experience the magical story of the Nutcracker while also experiencing the beauty of ballet and it’s music! What a great start to the magic of the season:-)

I find it amazing how the story of the Nutcracker just embodies winter and the beginning of the holiday season. My daughter is 3 and she absolutely adores ballerinas. She will be starting her dance class in the new year and I believe that if we attended this performance my little one would be truly inspired.

I love the Nutcracker and saw it often as a child! My Grandpa used to make sure of it every year! I’ve taken our daughter once now, two Christmases ago but want to make this our tradition as well:)

I think the Nutcracker is incredible because it shows the amazing ability and determination of the human body- what a way to inspire my children to reach for their dreams and enjoy some quality entertainment!

DOH! I posted my comment on the Caillou contest!

My daughter is dancing in this Nutcracker production this year and, as a single mum, paying for tickets to see her is difficult. And winning extras would mean that my daughters grandparents could also see her in this!!
