I was surprised to learn that Vancouver has been home to the one most decorated and diverse dance institute’s in the country since the late 1970′s, Goh Ballet Academy. Established by National Ballet of China’s Choo Chiat and Lin Yee Goh, the academy was created to pursue technical and artistic excellence - both customary traits of ballet dance. What makes Goh Ballet different is their dedication to raising cultural awareness in the dance community and around Vancouver. Over the years, Goh Ballet has trained generations of dancers whom garner respect and accolades, and perform for anticipatory audiences, both locally and internationally. But despite the international recognition, Goh Ballet continues to be about community first, reflecting Vancouver’s cultural diversity and serving as an inspiration to aspiring young dancers who want to transition from student to professional.
This June, Goh Ballet will be showcasing the talents of their students with two unique perfomances, one in particular aimed at families. On June 18th and 19th, follow little Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill and all of your other favourite nursery rhyme characters in Once Upon a Fairy Tale: Dances that Live in Your Imagination. This collection of charming and enchanting tales will be perfomed by the Goh Academy’s Junior School. Also, on June 17th, the Senior School will perform, Then and Now: A Process of Artistic Interpretation, featuring stunning original choreography in addition to excerpts from renowned classics such as River and Swan Lake.

I love ballet because it makes me dream…no matter what it’s about, Ballet tells amazing stories without so much as a word!
Oh…and I have 3 little girls that love tutu’s!
I enjoyed the dancing as a kid and now i think my goddaughter who is 7 would greatly enjoy this!
I have loved the ballet for as long as I can remember and it’s an even more magical experience to see it’s wonder through the eyes of my little ballerina. When she’s dancing in her class, there is something so free and passionate and joyful about her and the other little dancers and that’s truly what childhood is all about. She LOVES our DVD of Barishnikov in the Nutcracker and I can only imagine how much joy she would get from seeing the ballet live.
Thanks for this article. My daughter absolutely loves ballet. Right now there’s only “creative movement” classes for her and not any “real” ballet for her yet. (she’s about to turn 3). She gets mad because she’s not allowed in the big girls ballet hahaha. Soon, soon…
I always enjoyed the magical feeling of the ballet. My niece would love to see this!
I love the ballet because it takes you to a place where the human body can do incredible things, and tells a story in an incredible way.
I love the dancing and the story. I would love to take my 7 year old. She is taking dance lessons now.
Dancing and watching dance is an escape. It seems to free you from whatever stressors or anxiety life may toss your way. When I dance with, or just watch my little girls dance around withought a care in the world, it brings me back to what really matters in life!
Ballet brings beauty back into focus and the art of storytelling back into motion. So many times we see beautiful things on the street, in a museum, in a garden and we don’t stop long enough to truly take in and enjoy or pause long enough to explain to our kids in what exactly, we found to be so lovely. Ballet takes you with it as it moves, changes, plots thicken, and love comes together. Try to get a book or tv show to top that!
I loved the Ballet since I was a little girl. I took it when I was younger and it inspired me to take other dance classes and pursue the arts. I quite when it became quite apparent I was not the right physique for it (far far too tall).
I did manage to stay in the arts with theatre though.
Would love to take my babies to see this….have a 3 yr old, a 5 year old and a 6 yr old…….wow, this would be a fun day out!!!!
I would love to take my sons!!! (6 & 4) thanks this is great!
I love watching a story come to life!
I would love to take my son to see this! I think it is great to expose children to all kinds of things and he has never been to a play or dance recital before. I think he would really enjoy this!
Amazing talent!
My daughter has a blossoming love of all things ballet. I appreciate watching a story come to life through the grace and beauty of the dancers.
I would love to take my 3 year old….what a great way to introduce her to the beauty of dance!
