Gingerbread Competition and Charity Auction 2009

Just found out about the Gingerbread Competition and Charity Auction, the gala of which will be held tonight at the Museum of Vancouver. Entrants were asked to shun the traditional elements of gumdrops and smarties to create a gingerbread house in a modern context.

A panel of some of Vancouver’s most reputable architects, designers and artists will judge all the submissions, which were required to be made of edible materials and constructed to fit within a 16″ x 16″ box.

Check out out the 11 entrants online on the Creative Room web site. Don’t miss some of the project descriptions, which also include Macfarlane Green Biggar’s special acknowledgment to the “good folks at People for the Ethical Treatment of Gingerbread Animals” and Romses Architects homage to an alternative ending to the classic gingerbread boy story.

Want to have one of these fabulous gingerbread houses grace your home? There’s still time to bid online. Final bids will be made at the Gingerbread Gala this evening. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Architecture for Humanity.
