Claren Academy offers a new choice in elementary education for families looking for small classes, individualized learning, and a focus on creativity and technology. This unique elementary school in downtown Vancouver was founded by a family with two main goals – to prepare their children for success in a rapidly changing world, and to build a community of local families who share their excitement and enthusiasm for the great potential of this generation.

Research shows that entrepreneurial skills and problem solving are becoming more and more valuable as our children grow up, so Claren Academy is focused on fostering them from the start, by encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence, with cutting-edge technology and knowledgeable educators.

Inquiry and project-based learning are used to help students explore their own interests and foster their curiosity, while high academic standards give them the tools and foundation to bring their ideas and experiments to life. In our mixed-age classes, students work at their own skill level, making real-life connections through investigations, meetings, and independent work. Regular communication with parents and families ensures that all the important people in a student’s life are on the same page, and celebrating accomplishments together.

What does all that mean for a day in the life of a Claren Academy student? In the morning, he or she might hone math and reading skills with fun apps and small group lessons, and learn to program by playing games and solving puzzles. The indoor gym is well-used for yoga, dance, music, and free play, and there are daily walks to neighbourhood parks and venues – rain or shine! During project time, students learn to use technology as a tool rather than a toy, so they might spend part of the afternoon tinkering with circuit kits, recording songs, or considering the best way to build a puppet out of found objects, then perhaps see if it can float!

At Claren Academy, the goal is success in the future, and the tools to get there are foundational skills, creativity, and above all, joy in learning!
