This National Historic Site located on the beautifully scenic Sea to Sky Highway, 45 minutes outside Vancouver, takes you back to the days when people lived and worked at the British Commonwealth’s largest copper mine. Explore the mining tunnels aboard our underground train, pan for gold, or experience the cathedral-beauty of the iconic Mill 3!

Bring something that will keep you warm while you explore the underground world of Britannia’s copper mines. The Britannia mines were once the foundation of a thriving mining community. Now they serve as a huge, bustling 10-acre indoor-outdoor museum.

To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Britannia Mine Museum is proud to present their seasonal exhibit “I Heart Carbon”. “I Heart Carbon” aims to celebrate the future of carbon in Canada by not only exploring how carbon impacts our daily lives, but by discovering innovations that are happening now! This exhibit is part of Innovation150, a national celebration of Canada’s innovative past, present, and future.

Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and give demonstrations in the homes, businesses and shops. Popular stops include the blacksmith, the print shop, the garden at the farmhouse and the General Store.

Experience Heritage: learn about lead type at the printshop / feel the heat of the blacksmith’s forge / watch a silent black & white movie / chat to the clerk at the General Store/tour the exhibition in Stride Studio / ride the carousel /explore the restored Interurban tram /listen for the steam whistle / talk to the teacher in the one-room schoolhouse.

Today, it is a National Historic Site and home to a museum presenting the history of Canada’s west coast fishing industry. Experience the stories of this place and its people through interactive exhibits, films, and guided tours.

Kids can enjoy the many fun hands-on displays throughout the historic cannery, and pick up a Parks Canada “Xplorer Activity” book filled with activities that will guide your discovery of this unique site.

As a centre for life-long learning, the Museum interprets our ongoing interaction with the sea through exhibitions and programs for people of all ages; for landlubbers and old salts!

Discover the world of shipwrecks and explorers; step back in time to 1944 on board St. Roch, Canada’s celebrated RCMP schooner; explore the Children’s Maritime Discovery Centre; visit historic vessels in our Heritage Harbour and enjoy our extensive permanent and temporary exhibits year round!

The Museum Gift Shop specializes in maritime books and toys, models and RCMP souvenirs. Programming includes events, lectures, and activities for children so make sure you check our website for upcoming events! Every birthday is an adventure here at theVancouver Maritime Museum, and we have two fantastic children’s birthday parties to choose from!

We are open Monday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, until Labour Day. Every Thursday is Late Night Thursday here at the Museum, where entry is by donation from 5pm – 8pm!
