Their system includes diverse weapon arts, including use of: Rapier, Longsword, Sword and Shield, Polearms, Mounted Combat, Archery, Walking Stick and Umbrella self defense and Wrestling. They also have a Stage Combat program.
They offer youth and adult programs focused on fitness, martial arts mastery, theatrical presentation, self-defence, and more.
The martial art they teach is based on the content of authentic combat manuals produced during the Middle Ages, Renaissance and beyond, and covers the array of weapons and techniques used by the diverse fighting men and women of those periods, from duellists to knights. They even have a few original fighting manuals available to see in our Museum.
Their five-day Knight Camp for youth centres on the skills of becoming of a knight – from martial arts of the longsword and sword and shield – to the practice of knightly virtues such as courage and integrity. Students at Knight Camp learn about history, leadership, heraldry, archery, medieval games and more.

Arts Umbrella is a place where young artists ages 2 to 22 cultivate their creativity through Theatre, Dance, and Visual Arts programming. We believe that art is powerful—powerful enough to change the lives of kids in incredible ways.
When young people connect with the arts, they gain self-confidence, develop self-discipline, and discover creative expression—skills they’ll carry with them for life. Art comes in many forms, so Arts Umbrella inspires creativity through painting, drawing, music, photography, theatre, dance, architecture, animation, technology, media arts, and more. We base our classes on arts education principles, hire practicing artists to provide innovative instruction, and use top-notch studio supplies.
At four facilities across metro Vancouver, Arts Umbrella enrolls children, youth, and teens in over 1,000 classes every year. To ensure that all kids have access to the arts, we offer scholarships and bursaries, and provide a range of free-of-charge community programs at schools and community centres. Each year, more than 22,000 children experience the arts at Arts Umbrella, with two-thirds participating at little to no cost to families. Our mission is to be Canada’s leader in arts education for young people, a place that builds community and delivers profound life experiences through our commitment to innovation, excellence, and inclusivity.

The Lyceum is a place full of stories – we have the largest private children’s library in the city. Our camps start with great works of literature, which we take great delight in sharing. We use these to inspire the creation of incredible works of art and writing, or the weaving of shared imaginative spaces where really anything can happen.
The centre is run by Dr. Christianne Hayward, who is a legend in Vancouver’s education and children’s literature communities. She has created this magical space where there’s a focus on making for the joy it brings, and being part of a creative community.
What we hope children will learn is that making things – whether it’s a painting, a story, an ordinary box into something truly extraordinary – is a sustaining and lifelong activity. We also hope that when they leave our camps they have a greater sense of how curiosity transforms into possibility.
The Lyceum also offers delightful art and literature-based summer camps (that may even involve fairies!) all summer long for ages 3-18.
At Gabriela’s Movement Studio, Gabriela specializes in the young child with high quality ballet and creative movement/art classes for boys and girls, from 2 to 9 years old. Gabriela was the winner in 2015 and finalist from 2011 to 2014 as Best Dance Instructor in the Richmond Review Best of Richmond Reader’s Poll. At Gabriela’s Movement Studio groups are small, allowing for more personal attention. The atmosphere at the Studio is family oriented. Each family is special and each child is unique.
All of the students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves and develop their skills and talents at their own pace in a safe environment. The classes are presented in a fun way, resulting in an energetic class, sure to please the young student, all while learning through dance, a skill that help their minds and bodies develop as they learn coordination, memorization, and social interactions.
These skills become more challenging throughout the year and progress according to their own age. Dance enriches children with a sense of creativity, movement and self esteem that remains with them throughout their lives. The classes are specifically designed for each child’s age.
